Annoying issues on both the Liberty and Victory

I am far from a Carnival Cheerleader, however no one would be airlifted for a simple hairline fracture. A "Broken Arm" can be a minor, or a very major injury. Perhaps it was a compound fracture with compromised circulation, without quick intervention it could lead to permanent loss of function or limb.....perhaps there was uncontrolled bleeding etc.......Air evacuation is very dangerous not to mention expensive. Whatever the injury/illness, it would have to be very serious for an airlift to be called for. Please try to be understanding that this was a very serious issue for someone and just be thankful it wasn't for you or your family.

Totally agree. Carnival would not airlift someone unless it was an emergency.

To OP - typical selfish, me me me attitude. So what if someone had to be airlifted, so what if it could have been life or life - think about someone else for once and stop thinking about your poor little upset stomach - people these days!!!!

I have a curious kind of question-- but always believed that the slower the ship sailing the more the motion was felt-

if you hit rough waters you will feel that motion no matter what speed the ship is doing.

It depends. Big big seas it doesn't make a difference. The 10 feet or so ones it's an easier ride when the boat isn't powering through it.

Still if someone needs to be medivac'd, they should be going fast. I don't see how Victory would end up in really horrendous conditions considering where it goes.

#9 irks me..

would you rather the whole ship be sick while ATTEMPTING to save someones life.. or would you prefer the cruise ship take its sweet time and just give an "oh well" if that person dies? Pathetic.

Do you realize that fuel costs skyrocket when the ship incrreases speed like this.

Do you really think they did this without just cause?

I agree with you about the photographers but you come off very poorly here.

Was in a q & a a few weeks ago with a. Captain hotel director and chief engineer. They said the difference in fuel cost by going 20 knots to 25 knots was double .. Ccl or any cruise line wouldn't go faster than what they have to..DEAR OP MUST OF BEEN A SERIOUS INJURY

And their feelings were hurt that the purser's desk made them feel guilty for removing the auto tip...awwwh.

#4 Being made to feel guilty by the pursers desk staff because we elected to take auto tips off. We did tip generously, and yes we know it goes to all the staff, but TIPS are for good service. I don't TIP till I see the service. Just my opinion, but the staff behind the desk were very rude when we took the auto tip function off. Also you have to wait almost two days into the cruise to take it off.

  • 3 weeks later...
Other passangers said the lady broke her arm the previous night on the LIDO deck dancing. So NO it wasn't Carnival who told us what happened, but they did announce the "lady was being airlifted to Miami hospital". So they DID tell us it was a woman, and the broken arm story is TRUE. So if you think getting 3000 passengers sick over a broken arm is good with you and you feel you got your moneys worth, all the power to ya. How would you like to be sick just before going to a nice port because of this? What if it ruined your vacation? So many cheer leaders for Carnival on this site its stupid......

Not being a "cheerleader" but your logic could be wrong. Just because a lady was airlifted it doesn't have to be the same lady who broke her arm. 3000+ passengers on board...more than one lady could have medical issues.

Casinos are the same on land. No points when playing the tables. Did you ask the Pit Boss to rate you?

Have never been on a ship where the drinks are "free" like in Vegas.

On Freedom last week, the ship was cruising at 19-20 knots, max speed is 23 knots. The whole ship was not getting sea sick, the barf bags were not out. I can't believe the ship OP was on was going any faster.

If it was a compound fracture that could be critical. If it tore a vein or artery when it compounded then it is serious. If she had some other medical issue that were made worse then it's critical. If she was a hemophiliac and they couldn't control the bleeding then it could be critical. There's a theme here, follow the bouncing ball.

I feel your frustration with some of the things if they truly bothered you but to attack the captain because he was going like hell to care for someone injured that you have no justification for that specifically.

Never thought about the fuel cost of doing that. Great point!

Don't get me wrong lots of positives, but people want to know negatives also. Here is what we found.

#1 Photographers. Out of hand... Both ships... They come to you every night at dinner, sometimes twice. Guess what...... We have a camera. If we want a picture, we will get a fellow cruise guest to take a picture!!! And will do the same for them. Out of control.

Photographers taking pictures as you get off the ship at a port.... They slow the line up immensely.

Here is an Idea Carnival, instead of posting every ones picture on a wall, why not make them digital, and allow people to choose pictures either through the interactive TV or a kiosk. The picture wall is a waste of paper and pictures.

#2 Guys burger joint hours of operation and the Mongolian wok.

12pm-6pm and 12pm-3pm.

Really? Why limited hours? Stupid.

#3 Cruise director on Victory should be fired. No direction from "goose" what so ever. Liberty Karl with a K was outstanding.

#5 Casino Goers....... My GF played slots for 40 min throughout the whole cruise. She received 77 points towards a drink. I believe you need 1500 points for a free drink. I played close to $250.00-$300.00 per night on the blackjack table, and at the end of the cruise received 77 points!!! They take your card every time you get money to play off your sail and sign card, so they do track your play. Its a rip off. Any real casino will bring drinks while you play, but not Carnival.

#6 Free drink that you get for multiple cruisers. We received out certificate for the free drinks, LMAO you can only use it for breakfast or lunch and only at he Atrium lounge. STUPID. Carnival can't even give returning guests a gift without putting restrictions on it.....

#7 On Liberty, free drink tasting at the shops. A guy tells you hes gonna get you drunk, come drink for free, come taste test. LMAO... The scam here is you only get one shot, then you have to go to the back of the line which is 500 people deep to get another shot. They advertise a specific liqueur on sale at that particular point. You have to buy it NOW to get the deal. LMAO, no you don't, it was on sale till the end of the month in the brochure.

#8 Swarovski crystal in the shops. Shows 10% off all figurines. Swarovski retailers are NOT allowed to put figurines on sale. They never do. This was confirmed by Swarovski retailers in Grand Cayman, and in my home town.

#9 While on board the Victory on the last day on the ship "fun day at sea" the whole ship was sick. The boat was travelling at a high rate of speed. Little did we know there was a reason for this. The needed to get closer to Miami fast as they has a sick person who needed to be air lifted via chopper off the ship. So they compromised the whole ships passengers and everyone was sick due to the high seas and them going like a bat out of hell to get close enough fast for this air rescue. March 8th Carnival Victory. I'm sure other passengers have commented about this.

Carnival is the only cruise line I have travelled with, This is just a few of the issues we had. There was positives, but that's for another post.

Yeah for number 4 . The staff works really hard and deserves to be paid (not what you think they should be paid) My generosity and some others are not the same,Hopefully they will make tips mandatory soon and cheap people that cannot afford the tips will go camping!!

Yeah for number 7 too lol. Free drinks for the STIFFS .Some want something for nothing and when they dont get drunk for free they get mad . YAHTZEE!!! .Now get back in line and wait your turn ;)

And number 9 ,if it was your family member or you would you be angry they did the right thing and tried to make the passenger safe ,or maybe save their life

Stupid seems to be your word of the day.

Have you ever had a broken limb? If it isn't treated timely the bone begins to set broken. I broke my leg and had to be put in traction because they were concerned it would begin to set at an off angle before I could get in for surgery. And if carnival doesn't say what the medical issue is, you have no way to know if that was the problem and if it was the only problem. IMO you sound very selfish. And yes I think it is ok that they went to higher speeds to get someone medical treatment.

I always find it funny when people complain about free drinks. If you really want a drink, pay for it. Most companies aren't in business to give something for nothing.

Odd that the op claims there were lots of positives yet every post here has been how horrible the cruise line is. First thread stating that carnival steals and second that the spa is a rip off. Maybe cruising isn't for you.

THere was most likly a lady who broke her arm, however she would not had been the lady airlifted. The risk involed in airlifting someone from a cruise ship is just to great for a simple broken arm. With 3000 people on board to jump to the conclusion that the only female that needed medical attention was the one who broke her arm, would seam tobe just a bit short sighted.
