VIP Boarding

You don't have to buy butler and concierge service if you book a suite. It comes automatically at no additional charge. If you prefer no interaction with either, just let them know, as you do with your steward on other lines, and they will honor your request.

Enjoy your cruise, in any case!:D

I understood it as she was talking about the tips for the butler and concierge.

Early 60's and very pround of it. Also very proud that I enjoy cruising with all ages. Hopefully, we will be on a cruise some time.

Well, we're not far behind ya! My hubby turns 50 this year and I just turned 39.

I hope we do get to meet on a sail one day. :)

I was talking about RCCL from NJ (The other member said they didn't have VIP boarding for Mini/Junior Suites when she used them).

Yes Steward is the name a ship uses for a maid, doesn't change the job, they actually work a hell of alot harder then ones in hotels and get paid less...... Whats in a name? I would use their name if I was speaking to them.

I'm sorry if you might feel like we all just jumped on you.

I'm thinking that the VIP or priority boarding for wheelchair or disabled is different from the full suite priority boarding. The full suite priority boarding is having someone (usually butler or concierge on NCL) escorting us to our suite and getting us settled in. I'm thinking that special assistance priority boarding is more like the airlines.

I'm sure if you will be accommodated for special assistance when you are at port. :)

When you do speak to them, which according to you is only on embarkation day to give them orders, do call them steward or maid?

These are very pleasant and hard working people and IMO I think that is very rude to not at least acknowledge them with a "good morning or afternoon or night".

P.S. It's a ship not a boat.

I would love to buy a full suite, but you can’t get one unless you pay for butler and concierge service. I wouldn’t let the butler in my room and have no use for his or her services. We prefer privacy. I tell the maids on the first night when it’s ok for them to come and give them all instructions so I don’t have to see them the whole trip so no way I could live with a butler bothering us. Concierge is something that wouldn’t help me at all. If I want a reservation on the boat I can pick up the phone.

John is right I do not need special assistance, I use to help with travelling. I have a shock button John and just shock them if they try and push it. You haven’t seen the new one, nobody would try and push it and if they do it locks down.

A shock button! WOW!! That's just down right mean. By the sounds of it you and your family must be pretty awful people to travel with or work for.

Butlers wouldn't bother you, technically you bother them but that's there job.:) A concierge can pull strings to get you a reservation for say 6:00 in a dining room that would be otherwise full.;)

I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like I want to start a fight. That's just my opinion:cool:

I agree on all counts.

I also just noticed that you and I live in the same town. Hello neighbor! :D

Does NCL still not allow Mini Suite guests to board in the VIP section. Since school isn't starting until September 9th this year I thought I would try the GEM the first week of September (if they have enough kids booked or I will cancel - can't bring kids if it will all be seniors - wouldn't be fun for us or them).

I have only taken Carnival and Royal Carribean and they always board me with VIP. I book Ocean Suites on Carnival (same as mini on NCL) and Mini Suites on Royal and we always get VIP.

There isn't a chance in **** that I would wait hours in line to check in. I do know that NCL will probably not throw us off the VIP line, espically with me in a wheelchair, but my husband thinks we shouldn't support such stupid rules.

HAVE they changed their rules? I really want to take the Breakaway next summer (this summer the GEM) but this is going to be a major issue.....

HUH??

Please stay on CCL and RCCL....

OP, I have read your initial post a few times and am just dumbfounded. Maybe it just didn't come out as you intended, I hope. wish I could think of something uplifting to say... like ValleyVillage would.

Back in the "olden days" NCL did give priority boarding to mini suites, you were taken to the "special room" with snacks before boarding. this was for us in 2006.

So in answer to OP, no longer so, but yes they once did give priority to minis.

I think this gal is just pulling our collective legs to see if she can get a rise out of us. She cannot possibly be for real.

However, if I'm incorrect, OP, I'm begging you to stay with Carnival and RCI. I would feel so sorry for any NCL steward (that's "maid" to you) who has to deal with you.

Y'know, sometimes I stumble across the most interesting things, such as this: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1354279 . I found post #4 in that thread particularly interesting.;)

Apparently what's good for the goose is ONLY good for the goose.

Interesting. If I'm reading that correctly, then the OP does and does encourage others to get away with whatever they can in using VIP boarding without paying for it. I guess the NCL "maids" and other "servants" supervising boarding do occasionally see that happening, but in order to avoid unpleasant confrontation may let it slide. Get away with it if you can...right?
