is the meal worth $30 at Cagneys?

can your order as much as you want to?

 

also can you take out a dessert if you have no room

 

please advise

 

If you are a first timer, the $30 probably worth it. We have been there, done that so we don't think it is a good value any more.

 

You can order as many sides, appetizers and desserts as you want. Entrees are supposed to be limited to one each, but if you have a good relationship with your server that can be overlooked.

 

You can get desserts to go with no issues.

Some people feel the need to continually post false information pertaining to NCL's rules and guidelines. But, trust me you will more than likely not need more food at Cagney's.

We often travel in full suites and as such get to eat breakfast and lunch daily in Cagneys. We see the same servers who take very good care of us. On the few occasions when we eat dinner in Cagneys we HAVE been allowed by some servers to get a second entree without charge.

Just stating policy. And I too get to know the servers that work in Cagney's for breakfast and lunch. But, that does not automatically entitle you to preferential treatment when it comes to NCL rules and guidelines. Plus, if you travel in "full suites" these staff personnel really know who you are and if as you say you remove the DSC so as to tip face to face then how do you believe you have endeared yourself to these people because they are obligated to turn that money into the DSC pool. Unless of course you really do not remove the DSC?

 

Interesting assertion on your part that I connect with the servers and treat them with respect. After 28 NCL cruises, I too have had a few rules and guidelines bent on my behalf but I do not come here and advertise these courtesies as being the norm for all passengers.

 

So, if you wish to continue to states rules and guidelines have been bent in your favor so that now makes it the norm, please be ready for people to contradict your claims so the readers here have true information to base their planning on.

IMHO, if you can afford a suite, then you can afford a 2nd steak or whatever. I'm with you. I would never ask for an additional entree because (1) there is more than enough food without a second entree and (2) wouldn't want to cause someone to lose their job. Tip the servers extra in the specialty restaurants, but don't screw the rest of the crew out of their money by removing the DSC.

That's the beauty of it, we never have to ask for anything special or comped. It is done as a courtesy. We have had servers who refuse to charge us for things we should be charged for. I often ask if a glass of pineapple juice is available for lunch in Cagneys. Some servers will get you a glass and not charge you a dime. Same for sodas. I have had a couple servers who know I drink orange soda sometimes and they bring me a few at lunch or dinner and then refuse to let me pay for them.

 

Again, if you get to know your servers and treat them with respect and not like slaves they will often bend over backwards to make your experience fantastic. They are given the flexibility to extend special VIP benefits to certain guests.

 

No clue what you are talking about with the DSC comment so I can't address that.

I just don't want anything for free....I would rather pay $2 for a soda, but if a person wants to feel like they are above it, then that is their choice. My husband worked in upper management for a major hotel chain for many years and we know how hard service people work for little money. We got certain discounts as a part of his job, but never ever asked for something or let someone give us something that we did not pay for. You don't know when someone could lose their job or receive a reprimand over a few dollars. I guess it is a matter of class and ethics.

If you can verify that NCL does that then fine. I just don't like the sound of his story about all these comps coming his way. Going the extra mile doesn't necessarily mean giving product away on a daily basis.

Not at all....we enjoy good treatment same as anyone else, but not when someone is doing something against their work rules to give it to us and we don't define special treatment as freebies. We tip because of good service, not to get anything added. None of us have any idea of what who is empowered to do on NCL for customers so we don't know if/when they are doing something that could get them in trouble if noticed or reported.

 

For example, once on the Sun we had very poor service along with most of the restaurant that day, and I brought it up to the manager on duty. He went behind scenes, corrected the issue, came back to me and then bought us a drink.....that is what I call going the extra mile. I didn't feel "special" but I did feel that he valued me as a customer.

 

As I said those are our values from a lifetime of my husband being in senior management....we treat all the staff well all the time because we know how hard those jobs are.

 

We are Lifetime Platinum at Marriott Hotels for example....we expect the great benefits we get at that level, we ask for them if not provided, but we don't expect to have anything comped. We both expect and are treated like the valuable customers we are. Same with Platinum on NCL.

There have been times I've been comped dinner at Cagneys from CAS and have, also, been permitted a 2nd entrée without being charged.

The only difference now to say 8 months ago or more Cagney's menu now states on it a $10 charge for extra entrees. You want the shrimp and lobster with your steak $10. Easy.

I really don't know. I ordered steak. I also wanted lobster. I asked if I could have the lobster dinner as well since I wanted 'surf and turf'. I was told yes and that was that. All I left was a tip.

I get the meal comped from CAS so if I asked for it....and they told me it would cost me $10.00 - I'd pay it.
