Canada-New England 10-18-2014-Need Help

Really love this itinerary and time of year for this cruise, will be our first time on a S Class ship (Maasdam), Previous have been vista and signature ships. Usually get SY Suites but the prices are very high on these cruises, supply & demand. Looking for which is the best side of the ship for this cruise. Prefer to have land views, leaves Montreal and ends in Ft. Lauderdale. Port or starboard?

Also looking for which is the largest of the rooms with a full ocean view. Will be our first time in one and would like to book the as high up as possible. Thank You for any help/suggestions. John :)

There is no 'better' side of the ship for this itinerary. Both sides are fine.

Maasdam is a beautiful ship with a wonderful crew. She is one of our two favorite ships. We can never get enough of her. :)

Highest cabins are the PS, S and A cabins on the Navigation deck.

Next best cabins -- B - midship on the Verandah deck.

The A's and B's are the same size cabin -- same size balcony.

We prefer the port side -- most times the ship docks with the port side facing inland.

There is no way to say most times the ship will dock port side on the Canada/New England itinerary. We have done b-to-b, Boston to Montreal to Boston so many times, summer after summer, and I can promise you we do not always dock port side to the dock. We always book port side cabins so my memory is not 'fuzzy'. Sometimes in Quebec City we are port to the dock and sometimes not; same for Halifax...... it varies for many reasons including ship's maintenance, currents, wind, instructions from pilot etc

 

OP.... do not plan which side to book by such a statement as to assurance what side the ship will dock. You could be disappointed

We did this cruise in 2011 in a Starboard cabin. As I recall, there really was not much of a difference in views and some times we faced the port, other times not.

If you're asking about outside cabins, they are on Lower Promenade, Main Deck, and A-Deck. There are none on the higher decks.

The outside cabins on Lower Promenade are smaller than those on the two lower decks. A few of the outsides are partially or fully obstructed, so be careful to check the deckplan when choosing.

There are also some Lanai cabins on Lower Promenade Deck. They are the same size as the outside cabins, but have a sliding door direct to the deck, and two reserved deck chairs there.

Hey Folks, thanks so much for the info, it helps quite a bit. For some reason we have always booked starboard on all our other cruises so why stop now since there is not much of a difference. Was not so much concerned about what side while in port as when we are sailing into port or when we are sailing up the St. Laurence river if it made much of a difference. I did a 7-day Canada/New England cruise on the Maasdam last May, Boston to Montreal and booked a Verandah cabin for the first time on the port side. It definitely paid off since we sailed into and docked port side in each port on this particular cruise. Got some great pics from our balcony!

 

Was a bit disappointed by scenic cruising up the St. Laurence. There wasn't really much to see. Had beautiful weather though, so it was nice to be out on deck.

 

Loved this itinerary and the Maasdam!
