Waterproofing shoes

I'm reading a lot about using a water proofing spray on shoes. What does this do to the shoes? It won't damage them or maybe change the color somewhat? Is there a brand that is better?

We always waterproof our shoes for Alaska (and will for our British Isles cruise this summer) - there is nothing worse than soggy feet! We just use what's sold in the shoe department at Walmart (I think it is Kiwi but am not at home right now to check) and have never had an issue.

Thank you, that answered that question. Now, will that work on blue jeans?

I got our waterproofing spray at our Big 5 Sporting Goods store. I used it on our shoes as well as our down parkas and hoodies.

It worked great.

Thank you! I've been doing more research and sounds like you can use it on pretty much anything and it will wash out. I figured once it got wet though, it's probably not as waterproof. Am I right?
