Quantum Keel Blocks are in the House!

Recommended Posts

I posted (something like) this before. The model has a structure in the area of the trellis in the same spot as rectangle in deck plan. Another rectangle sits on the port side of the deck plan in what looks like the right spot in today's photo.

For the lifeboat.

Interesting post. The current deck plans do not show a venue at that spot, yet looking at the model and the construction picture, it appears there might be some type venue, with walls, denoting an interior space. It would certainly be a nice spot for some type of entertainment area. Can't wait for the final deck plans to be released!

What The Fragmented phrase! Lloyd, my universal translator is in the shop gettin gupgraded, so maybe I can interpret that last post of yours by just showing the original post you are referring to.

That's how you spoke after a drink or two on the Allur if i recall! LMAO.

Hard to make out, but I'll look at deck plans too.

Looks like the bottom part of the outside hull will be baby blue like the Oasis and Allure.

Another change that has been noticed is that all the renderings of Quantum that were published showed 9 big Lifeboats on the Starboard side, but looking at the deck plans we only see 8 big Lifeboats. The one removed is at one of the locations of the space that we are all speculating about.

Hope this model maker gets the color right. :)

Nice picture. Not liking the look of that bow though. It doesn't look like the ones that are. It looks more like the crew pool area ones.

Maybe it's a work in progress. And maybe when we finally get to see the actual bow, I can refer him to the image. :D

After checking out the new photo from Royal Caribbean again (and again, and again...), the area at the top caught my eye. When I first saw the photo of the block in Hall 5 (below) a while ago, I wondered if it belonged to the Quantum-class or perhaps the Sonne research vessel, but I think I can now spot part of it at the top of the Quantum of the Seas, on left side of image.

Good spotting. That looks like it! It looks like the mounting for the exhaust stacks. Lloyd, you have a good eye.

Don't know how recent this is, but here's a photo of the Quantum of the Seas build taken from a tourist at the visitor center that gives a glimpse into the Promenade. The closest we've gotten to seeing it so far.

Posted this in the 'There IS a Royal Promenade' thread as well. Seeing it is believing it.

Aha! There is a Promenade! :D Hard to tell how far back into the ship this is located.

Stop the presses.

We have seen the Promenade up close, I just didn't KNOW it was the Promenade we were looking at! Sorry! :o

From the Flickr photos by 'Post & Beam' posted a while back ...

Do not apologise. It is a good photo. We do not get any views of the promenade in the photos that show up online. Unless Royal Caribbean shows some shots like the visitor center one in the next batch of build photos in their press center (HINT! HINT!), we will not know what to expect from the promenade until we see renderings in a reveal (March 26!?!?!) or official photos from Royal Caribbean.

You can see angled balconies from deck 6 up. Looking at the deck plans this probably matches up with where the shore excursions desk is listed on deck 5 of the deck plans. That's just slightly forward of the aft atrium area.

I'm not a ship expert, but where in those pictures is a promenade?

The Promenade/Esplanade is at the top middle of the first photo.

That sounds about right, DEIx15x8.

From looking at the photo and deck plans, you can see the Superior Grand Suite with Balcony cabins just before the break, and also from the deck plans, you can see that deck 5 is open to Deck 4 below in a few areas. Using that info, we can estimate that the break is at the top of the grey square in the image below, plus or minus a few feet.

We are thankful for the pictures taken by some Tourists with a keen eye for detail (and since RCI is not releasing anything).

I think that while the Royal Promenade may not look anything like the Voyager, Freedom or Oasis Class RP, it has the potential of providing great views especially from deck 5 and a few areas on deck 4 as seen on the deck plans. Whenever the subject of the RP comes up I am always drawn to the area forward of the grey area all the way to just about the Photo Gallery. On the Port side as you come up from deck four staircase that area looks like a "Cat-Walk". And because the area left of the Cat-Walk has nothing, it appears to be open to deck four below. The confusion though is that deck 4 of that ares shows as Retail. Hmmm! And so the guessing and speculations continue until the real reveal :)

When we were on the Celebrity Silhouette and Eclipse, their "promenade" was a two-deck complex of stores, including the photo gallery and bar areas. It ran from their MDR to the theater. It also meandered in the same manner as it appears in the deck plans I have seen. On 4, it wrapped around the casino and there were the stores for liquor, sundries, etc on the port side. There were also three (if I remember correctly) bars right near the MDR - Martini Bar, Crush (both port side) and WineCellars (starboard). On 5 you had the coffee shop (Cafe Baccio), gelataria, Bistro on 5 (a $5 upcharge crepe restaurant), photo gallery, bars and specialty stores on the starboard side with open space near midship that looked down over deck 4. That was where their Molecular Bar was with a convertible area for art display and seminars. That area continued into the forward entertainment atrium which had the disco, a small theater used for comedy shows, talks, etc, some specialty sales ($10 watches, etc.), an open staircase between 4 & 5 and then continued further into the theater. It did not have any views of the ocean on 4 but you did have access to the outside deck on 5 on port and starboard sides at various points.

Definitely seems like it could be some sort of adaptation of the S Class promenade -- although bigger and grander I imagine.

I thought that the opening in deck 5 would have guests looking down onto the tops of the retail stores, but if you line up the deck plans of 4 & 5, that open area seems to looks down onto the area in front of the retail.

Lloyd - Thanks for capturing and overlaying the decks plans. That is the message I was trying to convey. Part of the yellow is overlooking the retail space.

On the "S" class, that is exactly the way it was. The open space on port 5 overlooked the front of the retail on 4.

Thanks for your note earlier above explaining the layout of the Solstice Class ships and your point above deck 5 overlooking the port side retail section. There appears to be a trend here similar to the Solstice ships and away from traditional RCI designs. May also partly be due to the changes that RCI had with its Senior Management Team, i.e. those that came from the Celebrity side.

I think I remember a while back when Project Sunshine was first announced, there were rumors about "Solsticizing" Royal ships.

After having checked out a few photos of some recent Celebrity ships, I have to say I like some of their design features. Wouldn't mind seeing some "Solsticizing" on the Quantum-class ships.

Have to agree with you on that. Also on most of the feedback I have seen people talk about how classy they look. Will have to try the Solstice Class one of these days.
