There IS a Royal Promenade

Recommended Posts

We told the Captain of the Mariner that RCI will be making a BIG mistake if they eliminate the Royal Promenade. that's the only reason why we are loyal to RCI's fleets w/promenades. If Celebrity would have a RP we'll switch in a heartbeat. We do like Celebrity but because of RP were sticking w/RCI.

We met a couple on our last cruise who will sailing on the maiden voyage of the Quantum and I already emailed them to let us know if there is a promonade on the Q.

I really the RP but it's not a deal breaker for me. There's just too many other features to enjoy to be stuck on that particular area but to each his/her own. Happy sailing! :)

I hope you went "BURN!!!!" at the end of your sentence and just walked off, leaving that poor captain standing there with his jaw open.

I am looking forward to ALL the new features ogf this Royal Caribbean ship. So if the Royal Promenade is altred or non-existent, that is no issue for me. The RP is great and convenient, but I'm adaptable.... well as long as there is still a Café Promenade!

Has anyone actually read Royal Caribbean's area descriptions? I was just looking at the deck plans and read the one for "Retail Shops" that is listed for deck 4.

Two decks of retail shops offering an array of merchandise ranging from logo items, perfume and jewelry to liquor and cruise wear. Featuring several name brands you will love - at prices that can't be match. Buy with confidence with the knowledgeable guidance of our retail specialist.

Sounds like a modified Royal Promenade to me. The Oasis' promenade was 2 decks of shops and then another deck above it of promenade view cabins. This one might just be the 2 decks of shops. Similar but not the same as Royal Caribbean has been claiming.

Yup. When I overlayed the deck plans for decks 4,5 and 6, there doesn't seem to be anyway for the cabins on deck 6 to have any kind of Promenade view. So, I think Promenade view cabins are gone for the Quantum class. However, I am glad that there will still be a two-story high modified promenade. Also, when you lay the plans together, you can see the the main staircase spirals around down to deck 3 into the casino, so it seems that this area will be 3 stories high... perhaps where the main "Square" is located ... more "atrium-esque" to me than a square if that's it.

From your cruise history you haven't been on the spectacular new Celebrity "S" ships. They have a double level walkway from the front of the ship to the rear elevator banks. Not as wide as the RP on RCI but still highly functional. Both levels have stores and the 4th level bypasses the casino.

Assuming that the QOS is a stretched and bulked up S ship, it should be great.

As far as the balcony situation, the three new builds are

Breakaway 32

Royal Princess 37

QOS minimum 55

big difference

Not as wide as the RP on the RCI is not good enough...where are they going to put the sidewalk cafe if it not that wide?...that's the "happening place esp. on those long 10 sea days... everyone meets there when they are not soaking/basking up on pool deck..its our social gathering and bonding place, where we can laugh n be loud and be served at the same time by those sweet, patient server... what about the Parades if its not wide enough!

:p I guess it won't be a big of a deal if there are hardly no sea days on our cruise, I'll be so tried to even check out the sidewalk sale on RP on port nites!

Oh well...Que sera, sera~~

HAPPY SAILING:D

Hi. See one of the last few posts in the "everything quantum" thread. (sorry I am too lame to understand how to link it) Anyway. Last line of one of the articles (I'll try linking it here ...) says that the same designers of 270 are involved with the "royal esplenade" which will go down the spine of the ship with retail... sounds like the new version of the promenade!! very exciting!

Thank for sharing...Quantum will definitely have RProm. now will named the Royal Esplanade...can't hardly wait!!!

Here is a pretty good description of an "Esplanade."

Interesting choice of names for the new version of the promenade. I can't wait for Royal Caribbean to release more information on this feature!

While that would be uber cool, I can't see there being enough room for that on the already tight floor plans, plus people getting in and out of a lazy river and running around with wet feet and bodies in and out of stores and around merchandise (not to mention in and around all the folks in their formal attire & photographers) would not only be a nuisance, but a potentially dangerous situation. Although an indoor lazy river would be really neat, I'm not seeing it in this particular situation (we still have the large indoor un-revealed space behind Seaplex... maybe they'll surprise you with one there :))

When reading the Wiki definition, it does seem esplanade and promenade are equally interchangeable, but I did see that a difference between the two in America is that an esplanade often divides a roadway and is often covered in grass and trees. That made my fingers cross that a few elements from the Oasis class central park could be incorporated.... I don't know how they could with the absence of natural light (unless they use a heck of a lot of grow lights), but it would make me a happy camper.

Being that the design team eluded to the esplanade having an upcoming reveal, I'm thinking it will have some cool and interesting elements whatever they may be. At least it gives us something new to dream about in the mean time :D

Echoing what a lot of people have said, the space forward of mid ship lifts I imagine to be the 'new' RP - although my bet is it being a much expanded 'grand foyer' hybrid type design from the Solstice class ships with what we all know to be the RP, with a shopping boulevard linked into it (Music Hall, etc).

I think the Royal Esplanade/Square will look similar to this area of the RP on Oasis (less the Rising Tide bar). A two story area, possibly slightly more than two deck in height with the open area surrounded by bars & shops. The shopping boulevard will connect at the forward end leading to the main theater. The The shopping boulevard will feel open having a two deck height with an overlook from the deck above to the shopping boulevard below.

This is what I am picturing. A two deck area, where the decks are several feet higher than passenger cabin decks. Much of the More To Come on that area may also be because they are still finishing out negotiations with Vendors. They have Britto and Coach stores on the Oasis Class ships. They probably want to do something similar here by putting some high end boutiques onboard. Deciding which store it is can wait until the last minute.

We are a group of ten who have just booked 5 DO balconies on deck 6 aft. We are hoping that the opening at the end of the hallway on deck six aft is an opening to get to Two 70. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Our TA said yes, and RCCL does think it is an entrance to the venue.

It does appear to be an entrance and it does make sense to have multiple entrances on different decks. The Workshop should also be accessible from the aft of deck 6. Good for you.:)

I've been out of Bayonne numerous times during the winter, with several of trips heading down to the Caribbean besieged with seas over 15ft. All outside areas of the ship, including stateroom balconies were closed off -- pools, Jacuzzi es, were emptied and netted...water slopped under the promenade doors, flooding the carpeting, and persons aboard were falling down. I realize that QOS will be much larger and will have a better stabilization system than any other RCCI or Celebrity ship that has sailed out of Bayonne (I can't speak to what it's like on the Breakaway) but I can't see RCCI creating any type of feature that would require it be emptied and netted. It would create too much of a hazard. A solid, Central Park type setting is most likely.
