Lesson Learned

So while you will have less children than the June cruise you may still run into them during most months. Believe me, a few really out of control children can seem like a herd!

Since you and I were on the same June cruise ::waving hi!:: - I didn't see many children running amok this cruise. I find early June a good time for the NY cruises, because I think the majority of passengers are from the NY metro area and those schools are doing exams around that time. Also proms, graduations, etc. We usually cruise in early June, because that's when our birthdays are, but it seems to work out well.

We did see a bunch of younger children dancing in the Red Carpet in the late afternoon or early evening. They were doing Gangnam Style and appeared to be having a lot of fun. I'm guessing it was some sort of Camp Carnival activity.

Many of us would like to find an adults only cruise where they keep their clothes on! I have no problem with nudist or nude cruising but spending 5 - 7 days getting my dangly bits and pieces sunburned doesn't sound like a fun vacation to me. Not only that I don't want to be arrested for scaring the neighbours

Been on cruises during the summer and winter months. Have seen kids behaving the same way on both. Never bothered me a bit. After all they are just kids. Don't sweat the small stuff. However rude adults who think they are the only ones on the ship. They do get under my skin a bit. Seeing ship staff treated like they are personal servants by some adults erks me. It must happen quite often, cause if you take the time to talk to these people they are incredibly friendly. We have made friends with many of the staff, and have hung out with them while in ports. Most fun in a port we have ever had.

Good point. I should have mentioned this on my post. "Adult-Only" that doesn't constitute nudists, swingers, etc.

I value your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with the optic of how loud the summer month cruises are.

You're not old, OP, you're just a person that appreciates appropriate behavior. DH and I are in our mid to late 20's with a young son, but we have the same mindset as you. One of our first cruises about 5 years ago was one with A LOT of unruly children on it, and we decided then that we would try cruising when school is in session to avoid all the kids. I plan to homeschool our children, so thankfully we'll be able to cruise during the school year even when they get older. And if I ever discover that my children have not behaved properly, they'll get to stay with me 24/7 the rest of the cruise.

WOW, that is a broad brush you are using. I would like to know where you are getting your statistics or how you know the people with potential that you had to let go were taken out of school in their youth for vacation.

I worked as a manager for over 40 years and had to terminate a lot of employees for excessive tardiness and absences but never once did I ask them if they were taken out of school for vacation when they were young. Also, if you are terminating multiple people each month for attendance issues, perhaps there is another problem creating the attendance issues or perhaps your coompany's hiring policies need tweaked. Terminations, I would think, are few and far between. Just sayin.

FYI, I was never pulled out of school for vacations and I never pulled my kids out of school for vacations. I have several friends that did however, and ones child is a physician and another 's is a CPA. WIthout statistics, I don't see your case having any validity. Just my opinion of course.

Wow, I wished I had your way of saying things. This is the perfect reply to one of the most absurd things I've ever read on this forum. I would never have been able to reply in such a respectable and mature manner. I was about to go bonkers just reading the two posts and then you settled me down:) Thanks!!!

Sorry, I thought my first two sentences gave my opinion on your original question. I just added some content to the conversation on something that bothers me.

Then of course start a thread on your topic. That's the fun of this board. It opens up so many opinions on many subjects and so many other people will never get to see your subject buried in a thread they have no interest in.

Interesting statement. Your original post was about the difference in optics between summer and winter cruises. However this thread has turned into more of a Monday morning quarterback session about bad parenting although this is the first time I have seen you to lecture someone and tell them to start there own thread. Just my humble observation.

Actually I started this thread to discuss the volume I noticed on on the summer cruises verses the off season cruises. If you look at my posts you will see I have referred to noise or insensitivies on each post with the one exception of the "adults only" post.

Others have also posted about noise or insensitives, at no time has someone hijacked the thread to discuss something completely off-topic. I would have mentioned someone complaining about dress code in the MDR (which is another favourite topic).

In all honesty I was simply making a suggestion as I really enjoy the board and the option of having opinions read and recognized. To do this you must post and have your opinions noticed. As I said, I value your opinion and you are entitled to them, and you should share them.

And now my discussion is complete.

It's not that you are old or that time of year... It's that some parents can not control their kids. We travel in the off season and it's a crap shoot.

Security on the ship could help, but also a crap shoot.

We need to teach the parents that it's a cruise Ship and not their personal baby sitter. I understand they are on vacation, but being a good parent has no days off...:D

I can hear the flaming already!!! Bring it on!!!

DITTO, Cruising Golfer!!! Enough said. We refuse to cruise during the summer or spring break for these reasons. It's also cheaper (usually) to cruise during the off season.

Usually I cruise in January.... this cruise was the first cruise at the end of June and all the kids are off school. Now don't get me wrong, I like kids, but I did find the volume on the ship much louder than it is when I usually cruise.

Likely some of the noise came from a group of seven 12-14 year olds playing smack down with the plastic cups in the Lido dining area or ten 12-14 year olds sitting in the middle of the open floor area at the aft elevators at 11 p.m. or possibly it was the steeplechase races that happened at regular intervals past our cabin door long after we were in bed (I know we're old 54 and 66) by midnight with the audience cheering on their favourite racer to win.

I know it couldn't be from the musical duo outside the casino who's decibel level was so high that you had to stand on the furthest side of the room to understand the words they were singing or in the Amber Palace you could feel the floor move with the bass of the music nor will I mention the upper Golden Dining room over the Any Time Dining where people were moving in and out frequently and we had to have the wait staff yell into our ears.

Must be me....... getting old........ as much as I love Carnival, I'm going back or old people's cruising time in January........... see you then Carnival Splendor!

I have friends (whose kids are grown) who refuse to vacation in the spring/summer months (land or sea) to avoid unruly kids. They too say its a crap shoot, but the odds are lessened by traveling only from September-February I think they said, especially when cruising. While I get that kids will be kids, sometimes its just lazy parenting and that starts before the cruise not during. I hope you're next cruise is better. Our first was in July and this time we're going in October. Looking forward to seeing if there's a difference
