Deal or No Deal

Recommended Posts

Its a fun little diversion but its a total ripoff. I played a few times on the epic and the most anyone ever won was a photo or free pull tab ticket. The bartender told my friend that he had never seen anyone win more than $100. Oh, and you dont get cash....you get onboard credit. So if you were to miraculously win $5000, youll be buying a lot of TShirts to bring home for friends :-)

While we're on the subject, bingo is an awful deal too. On land you can win 10x what they pay for 1/3 of the price they charge.

I believe it was $19.95 per card. It is like the show on tv with smaller prizes and if you are not picked to play onstage you play along in the audience. After every break they show how many people have won which prize, we won a photo too, and the lesser prize of free pull tabs. One woman had won $500 in the audience, I think.

It seems pricey, but compared to Bingo, seemed like a better return on the money and cheaper.

Has anyone participated in this? If so....can you tell me a little about it?:o

Cards were $20 each. My husband and I played along. It is done electronically and you use your card as they go to open suitcases. They pick someone in the audience to play along. In one case the man who was playing along won the most $500! And in the other session a lady and her daughter played and lost but my husband won the most $50. Onboard credit. It was fun and funny and at least we won our money back for cards and drink. I don't know if I would do it again but I bet my husband would.

Are you sure about that?

The way I understood it was that the money is credited on your onboard account but like a cash deposit you can get the money back at the end of the cruise .

At least bingo winnings are handed out as receipts showing the won amount, passenger name etc and must be cashed in with the casino's cashier where they will give the amount in dollars to your hand. I can't see why other game winnings of money would work any different.

Actually you don't have to pay to watch but if you want to play along it does cost. I like to play just because... I like anticipating and dreaming of what I could do with $5,000. I know the first thing DH and I would buy quite a few future cruise certificates but then we would get more OBC which we would have to spend (or cash out). I bet I could put a very good dent in it if I was forced to use it on board (hello SPA, hello jewelry store, etc...):D

DH really would rather not go but it's the one thing he doesn't have a choice in. ;)

I enjoy the onboard Deal or No Deal and play one card during each event. I find my twenty dollars spent there lasts longer than in the casino! I also enjoy watching watching the two passengers who get picked to open suitcases. Like bingo, and like buying a powerball ticket, you can't win if you do not play!

Islandhoppingfool, you can go and watch for free while knowing they will do the game later on in the week in case you think it looks like fun.

On the Breakaway transatlantic I was in o'Sheehans when it was being played in the Atrium. We weren't paying much attention, but did start watching towards the end, as the person won the highest amount (I thought it was $1,000 but it could have been $5,000).

Having seen that, I still have no wish to actually join in.

I was called up onstage, to play on the Gem last year. I won 175 in the game I had 5 in my suitcase, but made a great deal. In the next game I won 50 from the audience. You get refundable on board credit, if you don't use it you can get the cash when you are leaving, but it can also be used for the DSC. of course I more than spent it

It was fun. We went both nights it was played. We weren't held at gunpoint and forced to go. One of our friends was called up the first night, and he won around $300.00. For us, it was way more interesting than Bingo.

Great idea. I think we will take your suggestion and go watch the first show.

Thank you EVERYONE for all of the great input and advice. This is our first NCL cruise and the activities are a little different than other cruise lines.:o

We don't gamble, but never miss watching a Deal or no Deal session. It is fun to watch, esp if the CD is good at getting the audience involved.
