On Board Duty Free Shops vs. Bon Voyage

What's the catch? Price wise, it doesn't make sense to have both of those options because of course people will flock to the duty free shops... so, are you able to buy and drink the liquor right away? Or do you have to wait until the end of the cruise like if you were to buy liquor on an island?

The duty free shops, they hold the liquor to deliver the last night. Nope, cant drink it unless you buy it the last night and take it with you to your room for the one night.

BUT do go by for the liquor tasting... did that one night, sorta remember the rest of the evening! Last night 4 bottles showed up!

If you buy bottles of alcohol in the duty free shops....they will hold the alcohol until the morning of debarkation. You will receive a message in your cabin that will instruct you on where to pick up your alcohol that you purchased in the onboard shops

There is a line for the liquor tasting and sometimes it is rather long, up to 30 minutes and you can choose 2 at a time to taste and then have to get back in line. .. its a hard way to get drunk to me!!!

I did taste two last week on conquest, the line was not as bad as the time prior. I tasted baileys and the sheridans.. cant get drunk on that myself and didnt want to wait in line again.

We went to one a couple of years ago on the Fantasy and there were about 5-10 people there, no waiting and you got 2, then 2 more, then again... had about 15 shots in about 5-10 minutes... if that does not make you "buzzy" then you need to consider your drinking habits:eek:.

Saw a line of about 20 people on the Dream last year and the ship was full. Had a couple and decided against getting back in line, which was about a 1-2 minute wait, as we had the drinks card in the casino and decided not buy anything.

The Dream had 2 or 3 and the Fantasy had 2, one was in the paper, one was just "spontaneous" - I've heard they have the unannounced if the sales of booze is down, maybe that's the one we got a buzz at (and bought lots of booze).

This is probably something that varies by sailing with some sailings having a tasting busier than others. There was quite a line on the Pride on our sailing and we only tried a couple once the line went down (and immediately took advantage of buying 4 liters of Bacardi for $38:)).

Nice grab on the booze! I'm sure you are right, I guess on some sailings everyone decides to just drop "by" for the tasting that is in the Fun Times, so you end up with a line, but as you stated, wait a bit and most wander away. Except for the Dream, we have found it to be a low turnout.
