why would they have the luncheon on a port day, every cruise we have been invited its been a sea day

Are you sure you've got this right? It sounds very odd, why would they have it on a port day when most people would want to be off the ship?

Everyone we have been to has been on a sea day

Cocktail parties (as an alternative to luncheons) might be on a port day, though, since they are held in the evening.

It's always been on a sea day, even on very port-intensive cruises. Cocktail parties (the decision is up to the Captain whether it's a lunch or cocktail party) are at night.

As the other respondents state the Most Travelled Lunches and are always on seadays. Woukd make no sense at all to have them on port days!

In our experience they were always on sea days.

The luncheons have always been on sea days when we have been invited and I am pretty sure the cocktail parties have been too.
