Where can I opening wine?

Hi. If we can bring a bottle per person on board, can we just open it anywhere besides the MDR? Like can I bring a bottle and open it next to the pool?

I believe if you open it in any of the ships public areas you have to pay the corkage fee. If you open it in your cabin no corkage fee. Keep it in your cabin and ask your steward for a few wine glasses for your cabin. Poor a glass and take it with you.

Like the other poster said, no glass by the pool. However, you can stop at any bar and ask for wine glasses. If you ask at the pool bars, you will get classy plastic wine glasses. :) Indoor bars you can get red or white wine glasses.

I personally would pour the bottle in some sort of safe container and then bring it up to the pool and ask for the plastic glasses. :D

We open the bottle in our cabin and ask the steward to make sure we always have four wine glasses in our cabin and take to DR when we want wine for dinner.

Never have to worry about corkage and steward will lend you corkscrew or just open bottle for you

I've drank wine out of a Styrofoam cup before, tasted the same to

me :confused::o

Open a decent bottle of wine (not "3-buck Chuck") and pour some into different types of glasses - there's a HUGE taste difference between a styrofoam cup and Riedel stemware sized and shaped for the specific varietal you're drinking. Just sayin'

Whats wrong with 3 buck chuck? Some of our favorite Reislings come from there.

I actually like 3 buck chuck better than expensive wines I have had. And it tasted the same in a Styrofoam cup as it does in my wine glasses.

Studies have shown that most people, when blindfolded cannot taste the difference between wine that costs a lot vs wine that doesn't cost a lot. Also, there are a fair amount of people that cannot tell the difference between white wine and red wine while blindfolded, if the wines are at room temperature.

You are missing the point - take the SAME wine & taste it using various types of glasses - you'll experience a vast difference in taste.

On a normal day, Mondavi is usually as pricey as I get. We did visit a winery recently and paid a little more, about $30. I have been given bottles as gifts from customers that I know were in the $50 range and ultimately we like the 3 buck chuck the best - their Shiraz is our favorite. I also like that wine from Wal-Mart that is about $2.98 as well. I guess my taste buds aren't very refined :D

I'm sure there are really great wines in the over $50 range, but I don't want to like those anyways because I am never going to pay that.

On cruises I usually pack my own corkscrew and we use the room wine glasses. The Styrofoam cups were from our stay at the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma. That is all we had in the room.
