eos63 Posted September 1, 2013 #29 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We were on the Dream by about 10 am last March, but it was the cruise after the generator issues so no one getting off. It was great, like having another sea day, you were just not moving :D
crusinpsychRN Posted September 1, 2013 #30 Share Posted September 1, 2013 On one of my Legend cruises I was first to board. I straight away booked Behind the Fun tour. I was platinum so I waited in the VIP area. Two guys traveling together, one of whom was disabled, were in line ahead of me but had to stop to rearrange all the stuff they were carrying and asked me to please go ahead of them. On my Alaska cruise the VIP line was already boarding at about 11am. I'd gotten to the terminal, checked in my luggage, got my S&S card and was escorted right to the line to board. Never really got to even look at the terminal! I was only there about 12 minutes.

alabamaprincess Posted September 1, 2013 #33 Share Posted September 1, 2013 A little before 11 a.m. We have been the first people up on the lido and the first in line at the grill. My daughter has social phobia and doesn't like large crowded areas, so we try to board before the hoards. Yet another reason we sail on the fantasy class ships, it's less crowded. Gator4Life Posted September 1, 2013 #34 Share Posted September 1, 2013 11am. No FTTF or Platinum (yet). Just get there early enough and you can board early. By the time everyone is onboard I've had about 2 DOD and lunch!
Out to sea! Posted September 1, 2013 #35 Share Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Never figured out what the big rush to board the ship so early.. Gotta put towels down on all the chairs by the pool!!!!! :D:D Seriously, the first thing we did was go to our cabin to get rid of our stuff, grabbed a Guy's burger before it got crowded and then went to check out the ship. I want the ship layout committed to memory before 1800! :) Edited September 1, 2013 by Out to sea!
MikeM Posted September 1, 2013 #36 Share Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) About 9:30 and was in first bunch waiting for the Lido food to open at 9:45. Was the first cruise of the Splendor after the emergency repairs completion and sea trials in 2010 April. Aplmac Posted September 1, 2013 #38 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I want the ship layout committed to memory before 1800! :) I have that all done and dusted two weeks before I check-in at the pier. It's called Deck Plans -available on the internet. So easy to avail oneself of. Start here: http://www.cruisecheap.com/ships/all-cruise-ships.html . itravelalot Posted September 1, 2013 #41 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We never rush to get on, but I like to arrive at 11:00 and in most cases we are on board by 11:30ish.. We have never had to wait to get on any ship when we arrive at that time.:)
irishnyc Posted September 1, 2013 #42 Share Posted September 1, 2013 On our Splendor cruise in July we got to the terminal just before 12 and never stopped moving until we were on the Lido deck. Less than 20 minutes I'd guess. It was our first Carnival cruise, so we were nothing special, no FTTF. We walked in, did security, checked in, got on. No stopping. It was perfect. My mom and sister arrived around 1:30 and didn't get on board until almost 3.
MickCruiser Posted September 1, 2013 #43 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We have a drink receipt from the Paradise from years ago that has 10:45 for our first DODs. And that was at the Lido aft bar in the buffet area, so took us a few minutes to walk there. Nice! That sail away was probably a hum-dinger!!!! Out to sea! Posted September 2, 2013 #44 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I have that all done and dusted two weeks before I check-in at the pier. It's called Deck Plans -available on the internet. So easy to avail oneself of. Start here: http://www.cruisecheap.com/ships/all-cruise-ships.html . Know all about deck plans. Study them as well prior to arrival. But deck plans don't have landmarks so that I can tell my spatially-challenged DW "go until you see the two fakes palms and the bathroom will be on the right".

crusinpsychRN Posted September 2, 2013 #46 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Regarding deck plans--I've studied them prior to the cruise and as soon as I walk on board I'm almost lost! I have a general idea of where things are but I keep the deck plan hand out in my pocket! I can be on a ship 5 days and go forward swearing I'm headed aft. My son, on the other hand, was always able to correct me.
