Mr G RAY Posted September 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2013 I noticed some folks on Youtube suggesting a lanyard for the sail and sign card. Are they available onboard or do you have to bring your own?

cwestbrook Posted September 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2013 They used to give them free if you asked at the cashier window of the casino. Now they say you have to be playing. Sooo, I found a penny slot machine and played until someone came around asking if I wanted a drink. I said no, but I'd like a lanyard and I got one. This was late July 2013 on Triumph. winddawn Posted September 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2013 The casino hosts usually go around in the casino on the first night of the cruise and attach them to players' cards that want them. You can't miss them. Have a great cruise!
Aplmac Posted September 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2013 . The shops on board also sell some passably-dressy lanyards but you gotta shell out a whole $9-10  for each one. The Princess has two... a read-bead-y example.. - and a flashy mirrored-Blingy example, not shown Nice enough for an evening on board a Carnival ship. . ccruisequeen Posted September 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2013 I've got my own from my last cruise. I wonder if guest services will punch my card for me so I won't have to wait for the casino to open?
mustardgirl Posted September 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2013 I bought ours at staples... got the ones that clip on and have a zip so I don't have to take it off to get into our room :) like these http://www.staples.com/Cosco-MyID-Pewter-Style-Carabiner-Reel-for-ID-Badge-Holders-Key-Cards/product_749361
nwcruiselover Posted September 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2013 I bought mine at the gift shop on my first cruise and just take it with me every time. I don't like the ones from the casino. The ones in the gift shop hang around your neck better, and they have a way of detaching the S&S card to hand it to someone when you're buying something, without taking the whole lanyard off. I got the red and blue ones with the Carnival logo on them. I take my own paper punch with me so I can punch my card and put it on my lanyard right away. SIENA6334 Posted September 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 3, 2013 We just bought new ones we found at a dollar store. They appear very durable and look quite nice. Paid only paid$3-4 dollars.

I wonder if guest services will punch my card for me so I won't have to wait for the casino to open? Guest services will certainly punch your card. As for the lanyard , I tend to bring my own, but recently I have just been using a D- ring (carabiner) . I started doing that when it was obvious that it was being used to judge status by many passengers ( I got asked many times about my card). By keeping it on D- ring it is still easy to grab it and it is less obvious. I even jump into the pool with it.
Almost Packed Posted September 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 3, 2013 The things in the casino are the stretchy cords...you would not want to put that around your neck....it's not really the same as a lanyard for your neck. you can have the casino cage or guest services punch your s&s card for you. bring your own lanyard or you can buy one at the pier, or on the ship. we just bring ours from home. i don't like the ones with the plastic card holder because then you have to fight to remove your s&s card every time you want to get in to your cabin. Gardeneroflove Posted September 3, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 3, 2013 Home Depot sells them by the keys and the dollar store sells them as well. With Carnival, we always got them on board. We forgot with Disney and didn't have one. :( I bought three at home depot for our next trip (Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell and Princesses). I can tell you they hold up pretty well, as my toddler has been playing with one for months.

Landlocked_N_Texas Posted September 4, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Sorry, but what do you mean you have to remove your card to get into your room? Does it not scan through the plastic?
beachbum53 Posted September 4, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Amazon is a good source for lanyards. They have quite a few to pick from. Also, if you're a fan of a particular sports team, check stores in your area that sell team apparel (college or pro). Some department stores, such as Target and Walmart sell lanyards also. prattmom Posted September 4, 2013 #18 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Sorry, but what do you mean you have to remove your card to get into your room? Does it not scan through the plastic? You have to insert the card into the door to gain access. If its in a plastic case, you have to remove it from the case... crusinpsychRN Posted September 4, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 4, 2013 I've got my own from my last cruise. I wonder if guest services will punch my card for me so I won't have to wait for the casino to open? I asked once on the Legend and 2 staff looked all over for a hole punch. They didn't have one. The one the guy had in the casino punched such a small hole he had to punch twice so it would fit on the lanyard. I have ended up carrying my own and punch the hole s soon as I get the card. Make sure you don't punch the end that goes into the door or through the magnetic strip. I got one lanyard after the Behind the Fun tour as one of the gifts. I was thinking of the cards that they "tap" and charge. Duh! I see why not having the plastic sleeve might work better.
