marcyjane Posted September 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2013 I searched maps to find port of LA & Port of Long Beach. On the map it shows Carnival Cruise Terminal but no other cruise line terminals. There is on the bird's eye view a Carnival ship sitting there and a Royal Caribbean ship do the other cruise lines like Celebrity & NCL & Holland share that terminal as well. Thanks, Marcy
Rosefloater Posted September 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Only Carnival is at Long Beach next to the Queen Mary. If Carnival is not there, then other lines will port in Long Beach for the day during their cruise. The other lines do not start or end their cruises in Long Beach. All other lines cruise out of World Cruise Center in San Pedro. The 2 ports are about 8 road miles from each other. If you are not sailing on Carnival, it is best to stay in San Pedro. SadieN Posted September 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Carnvial uses the Dome in Long Beach for embark and debark. There is only one cruise pier in Long Beach. The other ship is the Queen Mary. All other cruiselines use berths in San Pedro. On rare occassions other CCL brands will port in Long Beach for the day. Langley Cruisers Posted September 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2013 Sorry should have said we are looking into sailing Celebrity So you need to be looking at San Pedro which is a port district of the city of Los Angeles. Long Beach doesn't play into this unless you are thinking of flying into LGB (which we have done and it is fabulous - way less busy than LAX). Does that help? Thanks, Marcy Marcy, go to Google Maps and search "World Cruise Center San Pedro"...or zoom out of a view of the entire harbor...you will see a large island in the middle of the harbor. That is Terminal Island...the Carnival Terminal will be to the right, but the terminal YOU want is to the left (West) or that island...On the Western end of Terminal Island, there is a large suspension bridge-the Vincent Thomas Bridge...connecting Terminal Island to the mainland at San Pedro...Center on the mainland side of the bridge and ZOOM back in, you will see ships docked there...THAT is the World Cruise Center...and where Celebrity docks...along with most cruise lines not named Carnival. The town of San Pedro is on the mainland side of that bridge, next to the cruise terminal and channel...There are two very nice hotels there...the Crowne Plaza and the Doubletree...lots of restaurants as well..all very convenient to where Celebrity sails from... Good luck...
Cruisin' Chick Posted September 9, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2013 You can check the cruise ship calendar for the World Cruise Center, Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro here: http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/cruiscal.htm On the same site, look on the left side for "Cruise ships info" and select the Long Beach cruiseship calendar, and you see the ships that will be at the one berth of the Port of LB. Most of the time, the ships listed on the LB calendar will be Carnival ships. When you see another line, as mentioned above, the ship is just there for the day (and it's not the embarkation or disemarkation day). Usually those ships are on a coastal cruise. If you are looking for the best airport or hotel for your cruise in this area, some people will use LAX, Long Beach or John Wayne for their airport depending on what airlines they want. If you're looking for a pre-cruise hotel for a day or so, you can stay at the Doubletree or Crowne Plaza in San Pedro, or you can stay in a Long Beach hotel (make sure to look for BruinSteve's recommendations -- some areas of LB are very industrial while others are nice). If you are sailing out of SP, and staying in LB, make sure to specify to your driver which port you need to go to. Some hotels will have a port shuttle, but might be to just one of them, so that's something to be sure of.
