Ruby 2015

hi

just a quick question. We are looking at going on the 14 night ruby princess 31st Jan 2015 or 22nd February 2015 sailings.

Both of these sailings return to Fort Lauderdale after 7 nights. From what i have read or understood you have to deboard the ship go through customs and then re check in etc (obviously bags can stay on the ship)

How annoying or time consuming is this process as it seems a shame we have to go through customs procedure etc as it feels like it is wasting a day.

Any ideas / advice appreciated

thanks

Minor point, but you are actually going through immigration, not customs. You will go through customs at the end of your second cruise.

US requires all passengers to disembark before the ship is cleared for the next sailing.

The whole process could take 60 minutes or more. We didn't find it that annoying as we got a chance to talk to other in transit passengers during the process. You will be back on board to enjoy an almost empty ship for about an hour before the new passengers start to board.

If you don't want the 60+ minute wait, walk off the ship when disembarkation starts, explore FLL got a few hours and then board after noon. As an in transit passenger you should be able to board anytime after boarding starts.

In January 2013 we were on the same b2b itinerary on the Grand. There were 1100 passengers doing the turn around with us. We were told that the week before there were 800. We waited in the MDR for about 30/45 mins. before we were led off the ship, a 100 or so at a time. We then stood in line for about 30 mins. before we were allowed to board. Those that arrived late to the MDR waited longer to get off and re-board. It takes a while to process so many passengers since each one must get their face scanned by security just like you do when you initially board.

You do have the option of exiting the ship anytime after disembarkation has started. Take your old cruise cards, new cruise cards, intransit cards provided by Princess, and your passports with you. You can then go to the beach area, other sights, or maybe just walk down 17th street. You can re-board anytime after general boarding has started, around noon. Princess also sells tours for turn around day. If the ship docks at Pier 2, the normal Princess pier, you can easily walk off and onto 17th street. If at a mid-port pier you can not walk.

We are booked on this 14 day Feb 22/15 already - just wondering if you can actually walk from Pier 2 through the security stop and onto 17th Street? We thought we would have to cab it to get out of there? We had planned to get a lift to Total Wines plaza area, lunch, reload the wine bag and cab back after 1pm. Would love to be able to walk there and back if possible!? Thanks!

We have walked it many times up to total wines, etc.....but just remember that they ship may not always dock at Terminal 2....likely but we have found ourselves at other terminals way too far to walk to that mall.

Many crew walk. Just follow them to the calling station, and beyond... If you don't have a laminix and an I-95, you need a government issued picture id to re-enter.
