pre paid tips ? Why do some not pay

I get flamed, so let me be clear. I do pre pay the tips. I consider them a service fee.

However, in what other arena are you asked to recognize good service before you actually receive the service? My mom was a bartender; we were all waitresses. I'm all for tipping... after you have provided a service.

In reality, it is a service fee. Also in reality, it ISN'T a good service fee.

Tips would be for the good service after paying the service fee, which is actually their pay check...which is an unadvertised cost of the ticket.

The amount is irrelevant.

You do undertsand that the guys delivering room service are doing it on a volunteer basis with the expectation of making some extra money via the tips they are expecting. All of which has nothing to do with their regular job. You DO know this, correct?

Why isn't majority of the people doing the right thing creating a balancing effect, good enough? Is it just some peoples need to stand in judegment that drives the negative comments about something that is truly none of their business. Yet, they are not wiling to make it a mandatory charge for 100% compliance. I guess that's called lip service, cheap lip service:D

Because people who don't pay their obligations are toads who make things miserable for the crew who are then working gratis and that will have an effect on the people who pay their bills.

Sorry for going away from the topic.

But i have a question about the tipping at the steakhouse. And i didn't want to have to start another thread about it.

I understand that apparently it's included in the price correct?

My question is, if i want to tip the waiter more, is it better for him/her if i put it on my s & s card or give it to them directly, or does it make no difference for them ?

WOW! I knew the crew wasn't paid anywhere near minimum North American standards, but they don't get paid at all - they all work for nothing - Gratis? Do the cruise lines use press gangs to crew up their boats? I love it when these threads spin off into never-never land. :D

If the cruise lines allow these 'fees' or 'gratuities' or 'tips' to be at the discretion of their customers, some customers will tip as suggested, some will tip more, and some will tip less. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. It's called free will, freedom of expression, personal choice, or whatever you want to call it. And all the name calling and hot air spewed on this BB will never change that.

So there's my 10 cent tip for this thread (I always tip well ;)). Spend it wisely.:)

Respectfully, believe as you wish, tip as you please. It's your choice as it is for others who do differently.

To put your mind at ease I know for 100 percent this statement is not TRUE on RCCL for sure. Maybe that's where some of need to be!

No wonder the fares are so low, many of you are subsidising the cruise-lines.;)

And the cruiselines love this. All wage increases will be paid by the overtippers, and they can continue to advertise the low fares, while those saved payroll dollars drop to the bottom line, affording more private planes and yachts to the CCL executives.

Brilliant!

So, I'm guessing all these folks who insist that they are paying the crew instead of the cruise line never eat in restaurants? (Certainly not twice in the same restaurants). Yes, there are some restaurants that do not have tipping but since that average dinner ticket would be listed as a $$$, no way most anti tip posters would eat there.

Not overstating anything are we? That 11.50 a day goes a long way.

Actually, by my estimates, ever since the scam of getting customers to pay other people than their service staff an extra $2 per person per day, that everyone was paying in their fare, that's about $650,000 to $700,000 a week extra. Chump change, right?

Yep, but not everyone is smart enough to figure this out. The low fares are meant to attract a few with nothing more than a pot to pee in but no window to throw it through, knowing they will have enough for the bar and casino, known cash cows.

Corporate greed has opened the flood gate for tippers to go on the attack and taking the attention away from them. Mr Carnival must be having a good ole coming up with the next cheap fare promotion.
