Platinum debarkation question

Recommended Posts

I reached Platinum on my last cruise.

For Debarkation, we went to the lounge that they told us to go to, and 3 minutes later we were escorted down a separate line to get off the ship.

My question is: do they do this just one time, and we need to be there AT THAT TIME, or do Platinum keep congregating in the particular lounge and get escorted down every so often?

I'm not sure if the real perk is getting off the ship "early", or just "priority" and not having to move through the whole line.

(I'm wondering if we could take our time having breakfast, then go to the lounge a little later and still be escorted to the gangway)

Thank you for any help!

OH - and I mean at the end of the cruise :)

I'm not positive but on Monday when I debarked I believe the paper had 2 times to meet in the lounge. 1st time was 7am for those carrying all of their own luggage off (self-assist). The next time listed was 8:30am and that was for zone 1 - you put your luggage out the night before. Not waiting in the huge line though so made it worth it. :)

Debark info from our recent Splendor cruise. They only lead you down from the lounges one time. If you choose not to go to the lounge, or want to leave a little later, that's fine, just join the line when you are ready.

We usually get a bite to eat, go back the room gather our stuff when we are ready to take off from the ship, I have never had the steward give us a hard time about being in there later than we should be. We head down & line up with whatever number they happen to be on. The nice thing about getting off a bit later than the other "1"'s is most of the luggage is gone and its pretty easy to find ours.

We were on the same cruise as Jeff. We did self assist and left the lounge and were the 5th and 6th person off the ship.

If you are doing Self Assist, you can leave anytime after the self assist has started.

If you do not arrive "at that time"...you will just miss the benefit of being the first ones off the ship.

Same thing if you leave your luggage out....you can debark at any time after the NON self assist debarkation has started....

but IF you want to avoid the lines at Customs.....I would be there for the VIP Self Assist.

I have been platinum for a while. I usually self assist and just come down when i am ready and when you hit a carnival employee 'controlling' the lines flash your s&s platinum card and they will open the ropes and get you to front of line and off ship quickly, jumping in front of all the others that are in line a mile long! Like it was said above, Getting up early and waiting in a lounge not for me. Only perk to lounge is they do usually have food and drink set up there for you.

You may have been getting away with jumping the line when you want to, but being Platinum does not give you that right. DW and I have also been Platinum a good while, and we would never even consider such a thing as this. Actually, if I did something like his, I would never brag about it on CC.

Also, never seen food and drink set up in lounge, theatre, or any other debark waiting area.

Never had or have seen food and drink in the designated waiting spot for Platinum for debarking the ship. Only have seen it in the lounge for getting on the ship. I've also never seen any ropes they could open to speed you off the ship. I would never dream of cutting the line and I have never seen anyone flash their card and cut the line. Your platinum perk is the designated spot where they escort you off before everyone else gets in line. Not jumping a line of people already debarking.

Yeah, that's how I do it to. I almost always drive to port so leaving the ship early is not a perk for me. I did have a cabin steward give us a hard one time though. It was still early enough & most of the passengers were still on board. Others were still in their cabins after we left. Our steward told us if we didn't leave immediately, he was going to call security! However, I should add that this was the one & only time we had a terrible steward. He lied to us about a couple of things, left beds only partially made every night...no need to go on & on, but needless to say, he did not get an extra tip.

Yup, I want that one last enjoyable breakfast on board. Once I'm off the ship, the party's over. I see no reason why I should race to end it.

EXTRA? Not only would I not tip extra, I might have subtracted some. Why reward poor service with a good tip?

But I too enjoy having one last breakfast onboard before leaving. I like having an early breakfast then head back to finish last minute packing etc.

Sometimes I try to stay in my cabin just right up until the time I have to be out. Not sure why...I guess I dread getting off the ship lol.

Okay, so that's not part of it... I'll remember that too.

Last cruise we went to the lounge, and we did have food and drinks. Just as mom finished making her coffee just right, the crew member came to escort us down.

I'm in no rush to get off the ship. We do plan on breakfast in the MDR, so I guess we won't have the priority debarkation benefit. Oh well. Priority embarkation is definitely more important to me :)

Just off the Glory today. Platinum told to be in Golden MDR at 8:00am for priority debarkation. No food or drinks in there and nobody would have wanted them. The people in there just wanted off the ship. Ship arrived in Norfolk and was cleared and we were off the ship and through Customs and taxied to parking garage and on the road by 7:50am. We went down to the designated area by 7:25am. Waited about ten minutes. It was so easy. Very quick debarkation process. Quickest time ever through Customs. Gonna miss cruising from Norfolk.
