muffyn Posted October 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2013 so what does princess do for any welcome aboard , captains or past guest receptions? or do they not do them? are you herded into the show lounge with usual tidbits & trays of fixed drinks? can you order other types of drinks with no hassle? ( like on some other ships) If anyone has specific info on the royal princess, that would be appreciated.
Pam in CA Posted October 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2013 There's a Captain's Circle party with free drinks. You can request what you want. I don't pay attention to these events and avoid them so I'm not sure what's offered when.
Dayenu Posted October 31, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2013 A week ago on Grand Princess - admission to the theater by invitations only. This was our 2nd cruise, no special status. (There were more events for people who cruised more.) Several people spoke from the stage. No hors d'oeuvres or booze. After 30' it was announced, upon exiting everybody gets a coupon for a free drink. One coupon per person. On the coupon: 1 drink up to $7.95. We just got drinks for coupons, did not pay tips. And we got chocolates on our pillows. No towel animals in our stateroom.
aquilegia Posted October 31, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2013 It was the same on the Crown the other week as Dayenu has described on the Grand. There were at least 2 Captain's Circle events and they were held in the theatre (at least, the one I attended was). Which one you were invited to depended on which level you'd reached and the prizes to the passengers with most cruise days sailed were handed out at the Elite event, but the names and number of days sailed were read out at the other(s). The Captain spoke quite entertainingly and there were a couple of musical items on stage that I personally could well have done without, but some people would no doubt enjoy them. There was also a raffle. It all took around half an hour, I suppose. As we left, we were handed a ticket for a free drink up to $7.95 which could be redeemed anywhere on the ship during the cruise. We were told that it was being done this way because there wasn't a lounge on the ship that could accommodate a party of all Captain's Circle members. On our cruise of 3,000 plus passengers (is the capacity 3,080?) no fewer than 2,300 were Captain's Circle members, so I can see their problem. ( like on some other ships) If anyone has specific info on the royal princess, that would be appreciated. Sail away party on deck with raffle prizes for those that get their tour the ship card stamped at all the on board revenue venues, no drinks or snacks, but free pizza, grill food and buffet food is close by. Captain's party in the atrium one evening with free drinks and tidbits for all. Past guest parties (Captain's Circle not to be confused with the Captain's Party) for returning passengers, normally split into various 30 min sessions over a few days. Platinum and Elites normally get a reception in the Vista lounge with the drinks and tidbits, others in the theater where you get a thank you, a sales talk and a drink voucher. When they serve comp. drinks the waiters walk around with pre mixed drinks on a tray. If you want something else you can ask for it, but it may take some time. The most traveled passengers get a special lunch, but the cut off is hundreds of days on short cruises and could be above 500 days on long voyages. We no longer attend the Captain's Circle Party, no fun and a waste of time.

Rare geoherb Posted October 31, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2013 I still enjoy them and look forward to them because we usually can find friends we've made onboard to sit with us. I'm not certain if we'll have them on our upcoming Ruby Princess cruises since they're 4-nighters without any formal nights.
Thrak Posted October 31, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2013 15 day SF / Hawaii cruise there was one night (might have been a formal night) when there were waiters all over the atrium area with trays of drinks. There were 3 or 4 different drinks. The drinks were free and some folks availed themselves of quite a few. It was pretty packed and we didn't hang around. CruisinChris Posted October 31, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 31, 2013 Captain's Welcome Aboard is in the Atrium/Piazza on the first formal night of your cruise. Drinks are typically passed, and yes you can ask for something specific. Typically canapes are also passed but unless you're on a major thoroughfare you might not ever even see them. All the above info pertains to Captain's Circle Parties, which are for everyone who has completed at least 1 previous Princess cruise. When there are lots of repeaters, the parties are tiered. OCruisers Posted October 31, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 31, 2013 They do have them but we never attend. For the Captain's Welcome Aboard and when they do the Champagne Waterfall we are normally in our favorite bar ... so sort of do see those.
