merknerk Posted November 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2013 :rolleyes:Okay everyone, I can't find a good answer to this online. It seems that every time we travel my luggage comes home with plenty of stains, usually black stains. Well I cleaned my suitcases and got all the stains off but want to put a safe stain protection on them. Anyone out there have any good ideas? I want something safe for air travel and the suitcase. My luggage is fabric and a pumpkin color. I knew if I went to Cruise Critic I would get some good answers from fellow travelers.
cb at sea Posted November 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Scotchgard would probably help, makes it easier to clean....but unless you laminate it, nothing will truly keep the dirt off completely. They handle it so roughly.....it's nearly impossible to keep those black marks off! I look at my dirty luggage as "well traveled".....
xxoocruiser Posted November 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) As suggested Scotch Guard Fabric and Upholstrey Spray is about the only thing and it's temporary at best. Personally I wouldn't bother with it as it's going to keep getting dirty regardless. Edited November 12, 2013 by xxoocruiser
CVU Posted November 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Some airports have a service you can pay to have, they will wrap your luggage in plastic for you. That will keep it clean.....unless it needs to be opened and inspected.
golfer1966 Posted November 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2013 I agree with the Scotch Guard comment. My SIL went on a cruise with us once and she had pink luggage. I mentioned to her that by the time we got to SJU there will be black marks all over it... and sure enough there were. The belt systems the airports use will place black marks on all light colored bags. Unfortunately, its gonna happen, but I think if its treated, they may come off with some elbow grease if they are treated.
Brigbound Posted November 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2013 You can try spraying some water proofer (sneaker protector) on your luggage. I am curious if that 'Never Wet' kit by Rustoleum could be a contender? That is amazing stuff.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2013 I too would go with Scotch Guard. Keith
Allis154 Posted November 13, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2013 You can try spraying some water proofer (sneaker protector) on your luggage..... When I had fabric luggage, we used this all the time (once a year). Our luggage was blue or black, but I don't remember them having black marks on them. Now, we have switched to hardsided bags, no need to worry. But if they did get marked, I would just think of it as a souvenir of the trip... Colorado Kat Posted November 14, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2013 My luggage is black, and luckily black marks don't show up. I think Scotch Guard will be a help, but having light colored luggage is just going to be a losing battle. It's difficult to keep things looking nice. Laurie S. Posted December 5, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2013 Just buy black bags and decorate them to stand out.
