What Purchases Count Towards Mariner Credit ?

What on board purchases count towards Mariner credit? Specialty dinners? Excursions? On board spending? What else?

Thank you

As I understand it everything that appears as a debit on your final bill, as well as those items that you pre-purchased (whether shorex, liquor, etc) count towards cruise day credit. 1 day of credit for every $300 spent. Those covered by the bill receive the credits.

From FAQs:

14. Are any onboard charges excluded from the onboard purchases bonus?

All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases, for example, Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus Cruise Day credits.

Everyone has covered it well for you, Carol...all I can add is spend...spend...spend...and you, too, shall be rewarded!!! ;) Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, of that I am certain, but I think once you go over the $300 mark...i.e., spend $310, you're bumped up to the next level.

I agree. They seem to be very generous in rounding up. I think if you go $1 over any 300 multiple (including zero) you get the day credit.

I am really surprised the Hotel Service Charge is included. Happily, though!

That's because it's a charge that you pay, and not a gratuity that you give as some people think. :D

So, let's see if I have this correct.

I need 43 more days to move to 4 star. My cruise is 21 days in a veranda cabin which is not a suite, so that gives me 21 days.

Gratuities amount to $462 which is equal to an additional day. That leaves me needing 21 more days.

How much money to I have to spend to get those days? Please help because by my calculations it's $3650. But, my math probably is wrong.

if you need 21 days -- I figure it's at least 300 X21 == 6300-162( the extra from the gratuities) so $6138. of course, there may be another new math out there that will have a different result.

You can only get as many spending bonus days as there are cruise days, so in a non-suite you can only get 42 days max no matter what you spend. :( Would it be worth it to cancel the veranda and book a Vista Suite? Edited by jtl513

Got it. So no matter what I spend, I will be short 1 day. Drats.
We're in the same fix. We'll come up 5 days short even if we spend 300 per day on our next cruise. :(

In your case, changing to a Vista suite would be cheaper than the 6600 total that you'd need for 22 "days", wouldn't it?

John, Even if I wanted to rebook and change to a vista suite and do what I can with my insurance which is already purchased, those suites are sold out. That would have cost an additional $3000 at least. So, we'll just spend as we normally would and let the chips fall where they may.

We need 6 days to get to 4*, and since the next cruise we want to take is 19 days long I would like the free laundry without having to go to a Neptune Suite. So we are taking a shorter intermediate cruise to make up the days. Much easier to do when it's easily made up in one short cruise.

 Paying for unlimited laundry on the 19-day would only cost you $133, or less than just the HSC on a 6-day to get free laundry! Edited by jtl513

I've used the unlimited laundry before - it's a fine option, but i was taking a vacation this year anyway -- i would have spent the money on something so why not a cruise.

A short cruise is a small price to pay.. just as buying CCL stock may not be the best investment, but the tax free OBC is a nice perk as well.

Do you remember our Maasdam cruise in '11? Fred and I had BA220 - the mini wrap? I got double days for that as it was considered a suite. LOL..I wondered why we had stationery with our names on it! DUH.
