I'd suggest heading down to the BWI airport area; Lot's of hotel choices. It's not too far out of the way; and that way you won't have to go through the tunnel to get to the port like you would from White Marsh.

Aloha,

John

Would that also include the Arundel Mills area then?

Also wondered about the Columbia area. DH isn't sure about staying near a casino. Wasn't convenient and safe area.

I booked a cruise for Oct 24th through Nov 1. I live in Texas and haven't had to deal with snow for about 28 years . For this booking time frame is that something that typically I won't have to deal with? Also, how smooth is the check in and out through the port up there? Thanks - Alan

Oops, that should read want a safe and convenient area. I'm new to cruise critic, is there a way to delete or edit a post once made?

The Casino at Arundel Mills is in a separate building from the Mall itself.

To me it doesn't feel any different in the Mall since the Casino opened. (Just some extra traffic on the side of the mall next to it; but no "bad element" at all. There are a couple of hotels at Arundel Mills that are on the other side of the Mall from the Casino (near the movie theater).

Columbia is OK, but even further away from the port.

There are plenty of hotels near BWI that are all in decent areas -at least to drive to/from. There's an "Aloft" hotel that is quite nice. My wife works for an airline, and they put her up there if there is too much now to get home.

Aloha,

John

We really like to stay at Hampton Inn when possible. So I've been looking at locations nearby Baltimore. This time specifically typed in BWI and came up with Glen Burnie. Would that or Arundel Mills be closer, more convenient? It's only one night so he may just have to deal with being near the casino.

The Hampton Inn -BWI (829 Elkridge Landing Rd., Linthicum, Maryland) is very convenient to the Interstates. It's in a nice area; mostly office buildings.

This area is about 6 miles from the Casino at Arundel Mills; not an impact at all.

It's also only a couple of miles from the G&M or Olive Grove restaurants both of which have excellent crab cakes!

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Bermudababe.... Hi neighbor....We're in Erie, Pa. Does the Embassy Suites in Hunt Valley provide a shuttle to the port? Free parking for how long? Or are you parking at the port? Thanks!!!!

We have always driven from Embassy Suites to the port of Maryland and paid the $15 per day port parking (we have taken 3 cruises from Baltimore). We have never inquired about a park and cruise package (if they have one). We have gone down a day early to see an Orioles game. There is a train into town that is walking distance from the hotel and drops you off in front of the stadium. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of your wonderful info John!! Glad to see you also included some local restaurants that have excellent crab cakes. That was going to be a must for us, no one better to get recommendations from other than a local. Now just can't wait for August!!! Was able to take advantage of the RCCL kids sail free promotion.

I can vouch for the Hampton Inn at BWI. Nice clean hotel with an excellent staff. The stay and park package is great. Stay the night before the cruise and leave your car there, the hotel has a free shuttle to the ship and they will pick you up when you return.

I also second the G&M Restaurant. I went there for dinner and the crab cakes were awesome!

abutler946,

We are cruising for our first time out of Baltimore two weeks from today and we're hoping for sunny and warm, but given that we live in the same climate zone as Baltimore we know that it could be 10 degrees and snow as easily as 80 degrees and sunshine. :o Two years ago your cruise would be during the time frame when there was about 3 feet of snow at the port (Hurricane Sandy), but last year would have been in the 40s. Odds are your cruise will be between 15 and 75 degrees and anywhere from no snow to a foot or three.

Bon Voyage!

Let me put it to ya this way, chances are very very slim you will see snow in B-More in Oct or early Nov. Its not impossible but I have lived in DE for 30 yrs now (about 2 hrs east of B-More) and I cant ever remember snow that stays (sticks, mounts up) that early in the year. WV is different obviously, & I'm originally from CT (same type of area of B-More, waterfront area in SE CT), but even in the 70's we never got snow with the exception of a freak storm.

Freak storms are obviously an exception, Sandy was an exception but did not bring snow to us here in DE or B-More that I heard of. (shrugs)

So, as Paul put it, expect varying temps from the 40's to the 90's, highly slim chance of snow especially snow that sticks & stays around, but you may see frost, & enjoy your cruise. Now if you were cruising in Feb like I expect too then expect snow. :D

We set sail from Baltimore on the Pride seven, yes 7, weeks from today! I wouldn't expect any snow in Baltimore at that time, so we are looking so forward to heading to Baltimore and our 19th cruise!

"I stayed there a few years ago with some college friends. We had no issues with the hotel and our car was fine parked in their secure gated lot. It was close enough to the Inner Harbor that we could walk to dinner or do something downtown and didn't have to pay $$$$ for parking.

If I didn't live so close to the port now, I'd consider it again."

Which HEI is this?

Thanks

Hi everyone. I have a friend who will be sailing out of Baltimore and she was wondering if anyone knew of a shuttle service from South Jersey/Philly area to the Baltimore pier.

Any suggestions/help is really appreciated. Thanks.
