What would you eliminate on CCL to get a 25% fare reduction across the board

I'll take it the other way - I would pay 25% more if Carnival would stp the waiters singing and dancing in the dining rooms! I mean, Cmon on Man!

Word is the captain will be giving massages in the spa during port times. It is brilliant."

Evening shows and live music.

If they got rid of those singers and dancers, and could give me a 25% cruise fare reduction across the board, I'd be happy with the comedy clubs, kareoke and DJs.

That is exactly how I feel. The shows interrupt my casino time as my wife wants to spend quality time.

I was thinking practical, real money saving things like removing the chocolate strawberries delivered to high level VIFP guests, removal of some programming on the TV and/or more pay per view for movies, etc, for those that want it.

I didn't realize the toiletries were provided as free by the manufacturers, so no harm there in my book in keeping them.

Maybe incorporate a nominal fee for room service 24 hrs/day; the amount of wasted food I've seen on stacks of trays in hallways is just awful (and not the corporations fault). Although that could backfire where if people determine they are going to be charged so they may as well order as much as possible.

charging for excessive luggage is not an unheard of idea.

Surprised they aren't charging fuel surcharges.

perhaps a creation of new corp sponsorships

Deck 1 now will be the KOA camping deck. no rooms just outlined 8x10 spaces

bring your own tent and must be taken down by during the hrs of 8am till 10pm

each deck would have spacious public facilities and of course lockers

more camping decks

Didn't they test market that idea on the Triumph earlier this year?

(Just a side thought. Sometimes the quality isn't worth finishing. Ordered room service on some kind of meat sandwich and it was very gristley so I couldn't bring myself to finish it. That would be corporate...)

But on the topic of waste, I don't think all you can eat MDRs are necessary either. I think 2 apps choices, an entree and up to 2 desserts would def be enuf.

I started a thread to ask people what they wanted to see return or changed on CCL ships to entice people back to the line. Instead I got met with a lot of feedback by people who said they are happy with the product that is offered now and they don't want things that would raise prices. PERFECTLY FAIR RESPONSE.

But, you know what's I found odd? No one here has said they want a lower price. Isn't that odd? So they are all saying nothing about Carnival could be changed to encourage them to come back more, or more often?

What if I told you that CCL cruise rates would be 25% off what they are today, across the board, what would you be willing to give up to accept that cut? What would you be willing to get rid of to save 25% off of todays fares? We could eliminate MDR breakfast/brunch. We could make it where MDR is dinner ONLY, the rest of the food is on the Lido. We could eliminate towel animals. We could eliminate TV programming. We could eliminate luggage mats for the bed. We could eliminate the sampler toiletry kit.

So many people claim they "could care less" (when they meant "couldn't care less) about making improvements to the product, so now let me put to the community plainly; what would you give up if it meant saving 25% off todays rates. Would it make a difference in you choosing CCL and would you cruise more often at a reduced rate?

I think Carnival has already eliminated or changed things to the point that it has eroded the brand. Further erosion for any reason would be a mistake.

Carnival has already decided to stop reducing fares to rock bottom to simply fill cabins, choosing instead to sail with some empty cabins.

Changes like Seuss at Sea will help Carnival change the tarnished image they have created, and over time, that is the best way to fill cabins. Their new focus on safety is evidenced in the new employee training center they are creating in the Netherlands. I think we will continue to see these types of enhancements ahead. Attracting more families will put more passengers on Carnival's ships because that will mean more cabins will hold 3 or more people instead of couples.

Food costs are way way way way lower on CCL.

Food costs per person on board for a 7 day are around $53/person.

Eliminate the "free food" thing altogether.

Food would no longer be included as part of the cruise fare.

Same food offered,of course..

but you would now pay for what you eat (or leave back in wastage!) :)

..just like anywhere else on land where you eat in a restaurant!

This would absolutely KILL wastage, would reduce it significantly!

The ship's holding tanks would be half as full as normal.

Grinders and liquifiers standing idle! :D

Carnival Corp. would make a ton of profit, and reduce my cruise-fare by 25%!

They'd get to charge a lot more than just $53 per person, per week

for food consumed by folks making their selection a lot more carefully! :)

Doing away with the fuel surcharge

has been the root ROOT cause of this entire cost-cutting ordeal

that Carnival Corp.has now put the cheapies through!

I've been saying that for 2-3 yrs. now!

Bring back the fuel surcharge,

incorporate Tips into the basic cost of the cruise(no more removals!!)

and watch the standard go back up!

Of course you don't want to pay more! NObody does!

But monetary inflation is reality.

As your money-value drops, the $-numbers are bound to go up.

This is Economics 101 reality. It is unavoidable.

Countering inflation via cost-cutting is bound to end in tears, as is happening already! :)

It's why we are having this discussion.

I am amazed at some of the elimination suggestions submitted.

What the Original Poster asked for is realistic suggestions that would lower costs

and most people jumped on elimination bandwagon rather than changing-the-cost-structure bandwagon.

Carnival has already eliminated the fluffy stuff that was costing them (and us) un-necessarily.

Example: Eliminating bathrobes amounts to very little.

They're not a recurring expense, and the silly things just hang there, whooppee.

It's time to start thinking outside the elimination box.

My last few Carnival cruises I've paid less per person per night than the same number of nights at a Motel 6 + 3 meals per day at McDonalds would cost. There have been some Carnival sailings I've seen this winter which cost less per night than a dinner of MDR quality at a restaurant in the embarkation city too.

So at this point, I don't want to see anything cut for further savings. Carnival usually (not always, but usually) is the best bargain in tropical vacations per night.

The question I'd ask is: what package of enhancements are you willing to pay 5-10% more for? Not enough for Carnival to no longer be a great value, but enough to fund a few things. I have my list but that's for another thread.

I'm not amazed, the Title of this thread is "What would you eliminate....".

Most 'eliminators' were just trying to answer the question asked.

If you want a thread about 'How would you change Carnival's cost structure?' go right ahead and start one. I'll be glad to participate. But forgive me if I only post my 'B' suggestions. The 'A' suggestions go straight to CCL Head Office. They pay better than CC.;)

That reminds me, it's time to clean the litter box.

But I would like to see the cost of tips included.

It should be included in the price of restaurant food here too.

The way they do it now is antiquated and stupid.

And it only benefits the folks who want to take advantage and stiff someone.

Restaurant or cruise ship...

I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

I have to agree with the others above who suggest getting rid of the "George Lopez", and "Guy Whatever his name is" branded stuff. Also, get rid of the NOISE created by the DJ's on Lido playing Hip Hop, Rap, and other stuff that's supposed to be music? What's up with that?
