Tropical cyclone Ian

As tropical cyclone Ian is now increasing strength in the South Pacific I wonder if any cruise ships in the area will be affected.

Last I heard : Severe Tropical Cyclone Ian, downgraded to category four, lashes Tongan islands

Va' Vau has been pounded by 12m waves. Fears are held for some of the low lying islands.

Just been announced on the 9 o'clock news that it has been upgraded to a category 5 again , with winds reported at 300 kmh.

Rooves are being blown off and contact has now been lost with the outer islands. With night falling I guess we wont hear any more till the morn.

Thoughts are with them . Trust they stay safe.

There is no cruise ships that I know off near Tonga at the moment.

 

The Oosterdam is in Fiji at the moment, unless the cyclone goes to Fiji, the Oosterdam should be OK.

Our Rhapsody cruise was in the area, but fortune was on our side, and we weren't greatly affected by it.

 

Sadly, there's been one death already. Hope that it winds up soon.
