cruisewiththekids Posted January 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2014 I was ready to book the Flam Railway for a morning departure, but then I wondered if there is sometimes fog that would make morning be not the best time? Our trip is in early June.
hallasm Posted January 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Time doesn't matter - 9AM is not early morning anyway in June. Are you booking through cruise line or at web. I do not recommen to book via the web since tickets have to be validated at the ticket counter if brought at the web or at NSB.
cruisewiththekids Posted January 25, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 25, 2014 We'll probably just buy through the cruise line. We have the option of 9:30, 10:45, 12:00 or 1:15. Will probably do 9:30 or 1:15. I'm wondering if the 1:15 train might be less crowded though.
dsrdsrdsr Posted January 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2014 I'm wondering if the 1:15 train might be less crowded though. Unlikely - all trains will probably be full.
LondonTowner Posted January 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We were in Flam in mid June and it was nice weather, sunny, but not hot and no mist. We bought our tickets at the station with no problem. There were only two people in front of us. If I remember correctly, we caught the train about 11am after the cruise passengers had left. Much cheaper to buy your tickets direct.

dsrdsrdsr Posted January 26, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2014 It's certainly possible there will be more room on later trains. On the other hand, last time I was there, there were 2 ships in port (about 3,500 passengers in total), we were second ship in but I was more or less first off heading for the booking office, and 11.30 or so was the first available train. It finished up with all trains full and some people disappointed. You simply can't know for sure, in advance.
LondonTowner Posted January 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2014 You can look up to see what ships are in port the same as yours. We were the only ship docked that morning, so had no problem.
