ryansmum Posted February 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2014 Hi, Does Epic have a retractable roof or are there any areas with loungers to relax on when weather is cold? Thanks.
barnacle_boy Posted February 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2014 No retractable roof over any of her exterior spaces. Epic is very much a warm weather only sort of vessel, which is perfectly fine considering that she doesn't stray beyond the Caribbean or Western Mediterranean, except for the repo transat. If the weather outside is ugly, passengers are forced to turn to indoor activities. Epic and Breakaway are much less crowded when the sun's out. Yeah we were looking at repo transit so weather not going to be great for a few days. Are there any indoor areas with loungers or quiet/comfortable areas for reading? Rare KeithJenner Posted February 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2014 The weather won't necessarily be bad during the crossing. You should get quite a lot of time outside. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Cubechick Posted February 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks for info. Yeah we were looking at repo transit so weather not going to be great for a few days. Are there any indoor areas with loungers or quiet/comfortable areas for reading? No, there aren't indoor areas with loungers. There is some comfortable, covered seating though in the Haven area by the Courtyard Grill. Edited February 11, 2014 by Cubechick
Sauer-kraut Posted February 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) During the day Fat Cats lounge is usually not being used (unless there is a game scheduled there) and there are a few couches and you can look out the windows at the sea. Its very quiet in there when nothing is going on. Edited February 12, 2014 by Sauer-kraut
barnacle_boy Posted February 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2014 You probably already know that transats are a total crapshoot when it comes to weather. You may or may not get a lot of time outside. I've been on crossings where it was drizzly and miserable the entire time, and others where it was so bright and sunny it felt as if we made a wrong turn towards the tropics. Unfortunately, Epic is not particularly accommodating to those looking for a quiet place to relax or read indoors. Your best bet for quiet reading might be your cabin. The "Library" is actually just several cabinets of books near the Cigar Lounge. The only indoor loungers I can think of are the ones in the Spa Thermal Suite. Epic has a truly fantastic spa that I feel is completely worth the $199 cost for a weeklong spa pass. The Courtyard Grill in the Haven is covered, but by no means weatherproof. If it starts getting wet out, especially with any wind, you'll get soaked. The Haven has several indoor lounge areas with plenty of seating. The Private Courtyard Lounge on Deck 17 (overlooks the outdoor Courtyard near the spiral staircase) is usually fairly quiet throughout the day. The Haven Lounge on Deck 16 (overlooks the pool area) is also relatively quiet compared to the rest of the ship, although during meal times passengers walk through here on the way to the Haven Restaurant. em-sk Posted February 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 12, 2014 Some other places you may want to go to: On a transatlantic the ship is likely not full. That should make things a bit quit. The Atrium area on Dec 5 has some nice seating. This is the area between the big TV screen and the cappuccino bar. The walkway between the family pool area and H20 has outdoor seating that is also quite nice. I don't remember if it is covered or not. The Blizz lounge has some fairly nice seating. During the day it was not busy unless there was a private function going on in the room. It has some fairly nice seating, thought a little weird.
