aliaschief Posted February 22, 2014 Author #202 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Considering the number of astronauts who were native Ohioans, Neil Armstrong among them, it is a shame the museum couldn't have been recipient of one of the retired shuttles. With the current military budget slashes it probably was not cost effective and cities probably paid big bucks for the retired shuttles.

rkacruiser Posted February 22, 2014 #206 Share Posted February 22, 2014 United States Air Force Museum in Dayton is huge and you can spend a couple of days there. Museum is the largest tourist attraction in Ohio. It is an extraordinarily interesting museum if one is interested in aviation history including space. A new exhibit is about to open that includes the training module for the Shuttle Astronauts. One of the most interesting parts of the Museum, at least for me, is the hanger where there are historic Presidential aircraft housed. The plane used by FDR, showing the special hatch used to get his wheelchair aboard, and the Air Force One that was used by JFK and on which President Johnson took the oath of office is housed there. Many other interesting galleries are available as well.
Mumsysailor Posted February 22, 2014 #207 Share Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) joggers on the dock.:D Surely it's a secure area, so unlikely IMO. I think they came from the sailboat. Edited February 22, 2014 by Mumsysailor

Of course the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL is a must see if your in the area.

rkacruiser Posted February 22, 2014 #220 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I have been to the Pensacola Naval Air Museum and agree 100%! Very, very interesting and displays that are well done. Not getting a Space Shuttle still rankles the citizens of the Miami Valley. It hurt--and it still hurts.
