Crazy planning mom Posted February 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2014 If we take the Florence on your Own Excursion, does the bus drop you off within walking distance of the Gallileo museum? How far of a walk as we will be there in summer? we will be traveling with our 13 year old son and think he might find that more interesting than some of the art museums. helpthejuggler Posted February 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) We used cruisingexcursions.com for transport to Florence. Good value. They park next to the train station and escort you to the Duomo where you meet again later for the return walk. This is about 10 min walk. From there you explore on your own. The Gallileo museum is next to the river close to the other museums. I estimate 10 min walk but we did not walk straight there, going in the duomo first then stopped for a drink. We enjoyed the Gallileo museum. We spent around 90+ minutes in the museum which contains lots of varied exhibits. Their website is good to gauge your interest before you visit. It took us a little searching to locate the Gallileo museum entrance. Edited February 23, 2014 by helpthejuggler
Rare CruiseIreland Posted February 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2014 http://www.museogalileo.it/en/visit/location.html If you look at the map here, you will see it`s very close to the main sights and just along the river between Ponte vecchio and the next bridge, Ponte a la grazie, not far at all. epixx Posted February 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2014 We took our kids to the Leonardo da Vinci museum: http://www.mostredileonardo.com/leonardo-da-vincis-florence-museum/ It contains working replicas of da Vinci's drawings, and your son might enjoy the "hands-on" nature of this museum. Crazy planning mom Posted February 24, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Thanks for all your feedback. Is the Da Vinci Museum centrally located as well? Has anyone done both The Galelo museum and the Da Vinci museum and can compare?
dogs4fun Posted February 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2014 The "Florence on your Own" with NCL dropped their passengers off near Santa Croce - not the train station. Probably depends on which cruise line you are sailing. :) Quite close to the Gallileo museum (BTW, Gallileo's tomb is located in Santa Croce).
