Breakfast in the MDR

Hi all,

Last cruise (July 2013 - eclipse) we always had breakfast in the buffet and it could be a bit of a nightmare getting a seat (and the room sevice was really bad -uncooked boiled eggs and white "toast" was particular low lights).

This time round again on the eclipse I was wondering what breakfast is like in the MDR (I assume the food is much as you would expect, eggs, bacon, cereal etc)

What I was wondering about was what is the atmosphere like - I'm really not a morning person - I have Fibromyalgia and mornings hurt. So I find being chatty etc really difficult.

I assume they sit you onto tables to make up a full table (This is what they did at lunch).

But what is it really like ? I don't want to appear rude - but don't really want to have to be anything but quiet.

Chelsea.

I did try breakfast in the MDR on my recent Eclipse cruise and as you say, generally they try to fill tables. So if you are a couple it may be quite daunting if you are not a 'morning person' and your tablemates are chatty. I expect if you are part of a larger group it is better. However the food is good and there is a wide choice. I also found the Buffet to be very crowded and difficult for seating. I prefer to order breakfast in the stateroom (I agree about the white toast) but cereal, fruit and yoghurt are a good start, and then go for a 'top up' in the buffet when it is much quieter later on.

I always ask for a table for two, and then repeat it to the escort, because sometimes all they hear is the "2". I won't sit at a large table either for breakfast. If they tell you they don't have one, they can give you a table for 4 but make sure they clear the other two settings so that they don't seat anyone. Put your bag on the other chair until they do.

Is there a dress code for the MDR breakfast? I only ask because I am traveling with a teenager, and if he is out of bed early enough, I really prefer the MDR for Bfast.

Is it open seating? Can I dine there even if I am in AQ class? I know we have BLU but if I dont get there in the 10 minutes they are open (yes I am exaggerating) or we do not like what they serve, I want to know what our options are? Also is lunch served in the MDR? Is that on sea days only?

We found the first roomservice breakfast pretty lame(tiny portions & I mean TINY). The second day I just wrote "larger portions,Please" & it was fine. The Buffet can be a nightmare(as they seem to be on ALL ships!)Only good for a quick meal prior to an excursion. Dresscodes are relaxed during the day so you should be fine. Do ASK for a table for 2 & you should have no trouble. We did have a couple who just walked right over & sat at our table saying "We don't bite!" It had been a table for 4 but only 2 of us were seated there. Rather strange of this couple, but they seemed nice..."Just don't look them in the eye, Marge & we'll be just fine!"

We always ask for a table for 2 if it's my wife and myself, and have asked for a table for 4, which has never been a problem.. We do this after they sat us one time with a table full of folks that did not speak english..Very uncomfortable trying to eat while smiling, and wondering what they were all saying about us. Only kidding but they could have been for all we know.
