Someratc Posted March 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2014 Hi all. So I know formal night we get all dressed up but besides that, what is it. One night there is lobster right? I am guessing all the photographers will want photos but what else is there on those nights? Anything special?? kitty9 Posted March 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2014 There will be the Captain's cocktail party where he welcomes you aboard. There's shows and dancing and it's just an overall nice evening.
Rare silentbob007 Posted March 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2014 It is two different nights. Lots of camera stations. Lobster may be the second formal night depending on itinerary. Oasis is a little different because so many things are going on that there is not one set formal program.
cb at sea Posted March 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2014 On a 7 nighter, the "lobster tail" (fishermans platter) will be the 2nd formal night.
OCruisers Posted March 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Hi all. One night there is lobster right? Hi! Noticed you are from Massachusetts. The lobster you can get at home will be why better than on the cruise ship. ;) LuLu ~~~
Someratc Posted March 11, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Yes, we are from right around boston. We don't expect much... Lol. Believe it or not, I don't even eat it. Husband does for sure but he isn't too picky,... :) Sent from my iPad using Forums
Someratc Posted March 11, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Ok, so 1. Which nights are formal? And 2. Which night would you pick to go to a specialty dinner? Sent from my iPad using Forums
wassup4565 Posted March 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Formal night is kind of a mirage left over from the grand old days of cruising. In those days everybody got dressed up for dinner every night, because they had their maids and valets along on the voyage to do the hard lifting. Nowadays, depending on length of the cruise, there might be one or two "formal nights," because some people on the cruise still like to fantasize there are still fine dress standards somewhere in the world. And maybe the cruise lines don't want to disappoint them in their illusions. Or maybe they believe that they are happily cruising on the same ship as the Queen or the Duchess who might show up at their table for dinner - who knows? Maybe they just like playing dress-up. If you like dressing up, have fun with it. Also, don't dismiss the chance of having a professional photographer take a coupla pix - hey, how often do you all get together and look that good? Otherwise, on formal nights, I have a big long scarf with sparkles that I throw over my usual dining room clothing.
