rdwilkin Posted March 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2014 I have a cruise booked for the Bahamas in June on the Liberty for my DH and myself. When I was checking for price drops tonight, I did a mock booking of the cruise and discovered that an aft wrap was available. I decided that it was worth the $560 extra and called Carnival to change my rooms. They would not make the change. The reason was that they were saving it for a 3 person booking. Not sure why the online booking let me do this with 2 people selected if this is true. Is this only strange to me? Not complaining about saving money but very confused! Call back and speak to someone else. There is absolutely no consistency among PVPs. I had the same thing happen to me while try to upgrade to a balcony from a deluxe oceanview. She said that I couldn't upgrade (roughly worth $500) and I even asked her what sense it made to not accept a loyal cruiser's money. I tried back and had a different PVP do the upgrade with no issues. I've had really positive experiences calling Carnival but I've also had really bad experiences. okgirl Posted March 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2014 And what happens if they have a 3 person group that wants your cabin that has only 2 people in it? Carnival would be losing money at that point.
frayedend Posted March 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2014 And what happens if they have a 3 person group that wants your cabin that has only 2 people in it? Carnival would be losing money at that point. It's a business decision based on risk. Take the guaranteed money now or hope for more later. The point was, if the OP was able to book online then there is no reason the switch shouldn't have been made.

Rare Tapi Posted March 19, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) And people question why I use a cruise specialist travel agent.....things like this. You do know that your travel agent calls an agent sitting in the same department as the CVS agents referenced above, right? So if your travel agent happens to reach an idiot Carnival agent that provides erroneous information, your agent will just be a middle man to pass that bad information on to you. How many posts have we seen from people complaining that their TA messed up, followed by the TA blaming the Carnival agent for the error? At least if I'm dealing directly with Carnival, I don't need to figure out who messed up. I still haven't found any TA as good as my PVP (which a lot of people seem to confuse with CVS agents at the 800-Carnival number). vjmatty Posted March 19, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Enjoy your corner aft balcony.... I am sailing in one next month for the third time. Corner afts are my favorite cabins on Carnival, except the Captain's suite :)

I still haven't found any TA as good as my PVP (which a lot of people seem to confuse with CVS agents at the 800-Carnival number). I absolutely agree. Booking through a PVP has really been great for me. Calling the customer service number, you never know who you're going to get. Being able to talk to the same person every time and knowing that person will do their absolute best for you, because they want you calling them directly for your next cruise, takes alot of the worry out of booking. If you don't have a PVP and want to get one, here's the link. http://www.carnival.com/bonvoyage/cms/fun/click2_call/default.aspx

Everyone's different....and I'm really glad you've had a great experience with your PVP - we have just switched to a Travel agent (who can help with airfare, hotels and transportation as well as booking the cruise). My PVP didn't know where my ship was sailing from, that the balcony sizes were any different in a "bowling alley balcony"; and that the stairs in the back of the ship were for "crew only"....just a few examples in the past few weeks........(I don't mind so much that she didn't know....but that she argued incorrectly until I dropped the questions and asked here on CC)

Off topic, but I must say that one of the worst things a professional can do is make a statement, or worse, argue about something that they don't actually know. I have been in the IT field since the late 70's, know more than most, and still say "I don't know let me check" fairly often. Getting caught stating something that is incorrect is a great way to lose your credibility and your customer. Back on topic, have a great PVP now - hope she doesn't move on. If you are booked during high season, you can only book a cabin that equals the number of guests you plan to have. During low season, you can put only two or three in a 4 person cabin (or two in a 3 person cabin) but during high season, you cannot. Online booking will not allow you to fully book 2 in a 3 or 4 person cabin........it may allow you to start the process but it won't allow you to complete it (I've tried). Never "argue" with the customer (especially when you're full of it). I still think the bad ones are in the minority though and hopefully do not last very long. I do make it pretty easy on my PVP because I do a ton of research (ships, cabins, weather, price, etc.) before I even call her and I could definitely (and used to) book on my own and am pretty confident I would still get the best deal that works out for me. I'm kind of obsessive that way. The benefit for me is that after booking, if I have questions or concerns regarding upgrades, price drops, etc., I'm dealing with one person instead of the customer service queue. An example is before my last cruise, when applying for an ES price drop using the online form, Carnival tried to take away my FCC onboard credit, claiming it was a promotional sale credit. I called my PVP and she straightened it out instantly. I didn't have to wait on hold or call back two or three times, or explain what the Future Cruise Certificate was (as they had been discontinued by that time). :)

That is something I did not know. I went back on Carnival's website and did another mock booking for 2 people and 3 people. Funny thing is that the cabin selections were different when I selected 3 instead of 2. But when I did this the other night, the cabin in question did show up. By the way, I did get the cabin in question when I called again.
