Going to San Juan a day before our cruise. What is the best hotel that is reasonably priced and close to the port? We will be going on the adventure. I have checked out several, but I'm not sure how close they are to the port. Thanks in advance!

I don't believe there are any hotels " close" to where RCI ships dock, so there's a cab ride involved no matter where you stay.

I've been at the Caribe Hilton, a beautiful resort hotel I got a good deal on with Priceline, but we had to take a cab into Old San Juan, then back, then to the ship.

Next time I stayed right in OSJ at Hotel Milano on Fortaleeza St. It was steps from everything, ideal location. Good breakfast on the rooftop included. Easy to get a cab to the ship. I'd recommend it.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn, Isla Verde, which is basically across the street from some of the more expensive resorts, and I think there is some beach access (the hotel has a pool, but no direct beachfront). It was clean and reasonable for one night. There was a question about the final cost, but we had a printout from the website booking, so they had to honor the price (they tried to charge a "resort fee").

There are a few restaurants in the area, and the staff were helpful with directions, as well as to the nearby supermarket (a 10 min. walk?) that sells a great selection of wine.

Cab ride from hotel to port was maybe $20/20 to 25 minutes, but much would depend on traffic. Our cabdriver went a back way because there was a huge festival in Old San Juan that had traffic stalled all over, and he got us there amazingly quickly, scoring a nice tip.

Adventure docks at the Pan American pier not in old san juan. The closest is the sheraton by the convention center...NOT the one in OSJ...

That said...it is a very nice hotel with a lovely pool...nice casino..decent food and a good staff, but there is nothing else around. it is maybe 2 miles from the pier, or less....

Stayed at intercontinental 2 or 3 years ago. They have a fantastic pool area with a great bar that made brick oven pizza. Very good!

They were about to begin a multi- million dollar renovation on the rooms.

If I remember correct got it on Priceline for around $100

It was about a 15 minute ride to the port.

Also felt very safe walking in the area.

I would first recommend one of the boutique hotels such as Casablanca or Villa Herencia Hotel in Old San Juan. But if that's not your thing, San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino is right on the beach. Much of the nightlife and great restaurants are within walking distance from any hotel in Condado. Our favorite restaurant is Il Postino, a wide range on the menu.

The Caribe Hilton is amazing! We stayed there last year and will stay there again this year pre-cruise. The Caribe is about 15 min from the airport, and is only a short cab ride to the cruise pier. The hotel is beautiful and the service is great!

Interesting posts! I will be booking AOS for May of 2015, and was looking around at hotels myself. We aren't really looking for a lot to do, as we tend to just get comfortable, get a bite to eat and relax. I like being close to the port, and 15-20 minutes away is close. I prefer a hotel that has a restaurant in it that is reasonably priced.

I am so glad someone asked this question! I've been researching hotels in San Juan for over a week now.

I have narrowed it down to 3.

Hotel Milano and Casablanca in OSJ.

or Coral Princess Hotel in the Condado District.

Pricewise, they are about the same, give or take a few dollars.

I like hotels with 'comfortable character'.

I would absolutely - positively recommend the Hotel Casablanca. You should know however the hotel has no elevator, so book on the lowest floor you can.
