The things I look forward to on my cruise are....

Recommended Posts

I'm new to cruising, our 1st leaves in 3 weeks. I'm looking forward to just getting AWAY! I work from hone 30-40 hours a week. I'm PTA co-Pres at one school and secretary at another. I lead a Girl Scout troop of 18 Brownies. With scouts and all the end of year stuff at two schools plus PTA and work May is exhausting! Teacher appreciation, field days, end of year parties, planning for next year for PTA, end of year Girl Scout stuff. My calendar is booked every day! Last day of school, is May 22 and I want to get on the ship and just vacation. Forget it all. Send my kids to camp Carnival and Circle C and see how good the Cheers program really is. No work, no email, just put it all behind and get away. Sunrises, sunsets, no cooking, no cleaning, and a warm ocean breeze away from the chaos of life. I deserve it!

No stress. DH and I both work a couple of jobs and our lives are exhausting. Going cruising for us means leaving the world behind, with all its work, stress and concerns. Finding a peaceful place on the ship to relax is heavenly.

It's nice to see a positive thread and this one is great! Here are a few of favorite things to do in no particular order:

Posing for that first embarkation picture on every cruise

Listening for the ding my card makes as it gets swiped for the first time on embarkation

Stepping into our balcony and watching people board with those excited looks on their faces

Watching the sail away from our balcony

Exploring the ship on day one

Watching the sun set from our balcony

Visiting the ports of call on shore excursions

Taking as many pictures as possible to capture the cruise

And finally . . . making plans for our next cruise!!!!!! :D

My last cruise was the first one that I've ever had a balcony, and that was my favorite part for sure. Sitting outside with DH and a book, and maybe a drink or coffee was heaven!

But I also love introducing people to cruising. This Thanksgiving my MIL and my sister's boyfriend will go with the family for a seven day cruise to the Bahamas. So looking forward to showing them the ropes! ;)

Well I'm kind of on an every other year cruiser. Unfortunately the elevators at work sound just like the ding on a cruise ship and I have flashbacks when I happened to hear it while walking pass it. I'm on first floor so, I don't have to use it. What I noticed is no one mentioned the 24-hour ice cream machines !!!:) I second the standing at the rails at night just catching the breeze and looking out over the ocean for any other ships. I also love going to deck 3 for quiet time. I've never thought of taking time to hang out on embarkation deck to people watch the 'newcomers'. We be trying to get up to the lido for lunch before the room is ready ... LOL:p Edited by mojean
On a side note, in St. John, Canada, they have some sort of military or police color guard that does a salute and really moving rendition of amazing grace on the bagpipes as you pull away. I thought that was awesome, has anyone else noticed this?
Yes, and we thought it was awesome as well. Our balcony faced the dock so we were able to fully take it in. It's a completely different experience when you hear in played on bagpipes in person!

I'm glad someone else noticed it also. I only saw it myself because I was up on lido watching sailaway on the glory last June, taking some time alone to reflect on important upcoming decisions I would have to make when I got home and saw and heard them play. Really nice touch. Pretty emotional actually. St. John doesn't get too many cruise ships so they seem to really appreciate the ones that do stop there and the people there are very accommodating and friendly. Great place. We went on a bus tour that took us all through the city and surrounding areas. Great tour guide and a very nice day weather wise.

Knowing that our kids will be somewhat taken care of as they are each in their respective youth programs, Camp Carnival, Circle C and Club o2 ! Our four kids are each 4 years apart which makes a cruise perfect for us !

Like the OP I love EVERYTHING.
Starting with the planning. For me its as much fun as going.
Arriving at the airport--then taking off, landing, retreiving our luggage etc.
Staying in a hotel the night before.
Not cooking for 8 or 9 days.
Arriving at the port.
Checking in.
The DING.
Exploring a new ship.
The huge chocolate cake at the coffee shop.
Watching the wake.
Meeting new people.
The casino.
Feeling special when the pit boss buys my drinks.
The shows.
The choices.
FREE use?? of perfume in the shops. (LOL) aka samples
New ports of call.

Theres so much more but thats a good start.

What I hate the most??? The final DING
