The Petit Filet Mignon with Double Whipped Mashed Potato, Sautéed Broccolini, Crimini Mushrooms & Leek

The best appetizer we had was the Warm Goat Cheese and Basil Soufflé. It was very similar to the Baked Fontina Soufflé on the original Giovanni's Menu. We would put that on our top food list list for the ship. The Tomato Herb Cream Cheese served with the bread was also very tasty. We each ordered the Petit Filet Mignon which was cooked a perfect medium rare. All of the sides come as sharing size which is nice because you can taste a few different dishes.

Creme Brûlée

The great reviews on CC about the desserts at Chops were spot on! If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Chocolate Mud Pie. They were also more than big enough to split but since we are on vacation and it is the nation of why not, why not order your own!?

A few comments, observations, & of course pictures of our evening in Chops:

When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We figured as the night went on it will fill up but it never did. One other couple sat outside next to us and maybe three tables were occupied inside. Sitting outside was very peaceful. It was slightly humid and hot because we were enclosed in a glass patio but still perfectly comfortable. We did notice in all the specialty restaurants throughout the ship that the wines included in the premium package were very limited. They presented the Creme Brûlée "on fire" which was a nice touch especially on a ship. I enjoyed a cappuccino compliments of the Crown and Anchor coupons loaded to the sea pass. Enjoy one specialty non-alcoholic coffee with the purchase of a dinner at a specialty restaurant. Dinner had taken about a good two hours, but we also like to make dinner an experience and not rush thru it. When the check came our 20% discount that was offered when we booked was applied to the total. We really did enjoy our meal at Chops and would definitely dine there again.

After dinner we headed straight to the Opal Theater for Hairspray.

Because we had made our reservations online pre cruise, all we had to do was have our Sea pass card scanned at the door. We arrived about twenty minutes before show time and there was still plenty of seats open.

I'm sure night two would be slightly more crowded for a few reasons. One being people don't want to commit to a set schedule the first night, two being the second night is formal night, and three night two is the final performance. I was a little uncertain about seeing a 90 minute show the first night in fear that we would be so tired from traveling all day that we would fall asleep mid way thru. Well I have never been so wrong! There was no way anyone could nod off during such a spectacular performance! I had seen Hairspray on Broadway when it first came out years ago and felt that Royal did a slightly better job. The cast did a wonderful job keeping the crowd wanting more. There was such a great energy from the crowd. The role of Edna Turnblad was played by a young man who reminded me of a young Harvey Fierstein. Excellent casting all around. I had seen Chicago on the Allure and was very impressed as well but comparing the two, Hairspray would win hands down.

Thanks for this wonderful review. We are headed to Chops the first night but already made reservations. I wonder if we should cancel and book when we get on board to get the 20%. Was your ship booked to capacity like ours will be the end of June. Were the discounts something that is always offered or just on cruises where they aren't at capacity? Loved looking at the menu as much as the food porn. Did you order 3 desserts for 2 of you? Did they allow that? The list of coffees made me warm inside. DH has the drink package for premium coffees, will that cover those at Chops too? Less than 6 weeks for us - I wish it were this Saturday. Keep the great review coming - THANKS!

Thanks so much for the kind words! I don't believe our ship was fully booked because the night before we sailed there were still plenty of cabins available online. I don't remember any discounts being offered on our sailing on the allure but it seemed on this sailing on the oasis every night 20% was offered. Yes we did order three desserts lol. With appetizers and desserts they allow you to order as much as you want. With entrees it's one per person. That seemed to be the way with all the restaurants. I know on the explorer we ate at portofinos and they told us if we wanted an extra entree there was like a 10 or 15 dollar up charge. So I assume that's fleet wide for all restaurants. I don't think the ultimate package covers alcoholic specialty coffee. We had the premium package.

After the show it was getting late and the sea was no longer calling, it was our bed for a good nights sleep! But before we headed back to our cabin we took a quick walk thru the Promenade to take some pictures and get some waters at Cafe Promenade. The photographers onboard had multiple photo opportunities set up throughout the ship every night and a great one was the wooden stairs next to the pub. We made sure to stop and take a picture. It's pretty neat how this class of ship sets up their picture process. When you board there is the welcome aboard photo. Make sure you take your hat and sunglasses off so facial recognition can take place. Anytime you take a photo with the Royal photographers during the week you don't even need to hand them your Sea pass. Just head over to Focus on deck 6 above the Promenade and you will find your pictures placed in your own personal folder. No more searching the walls for your pictures like on other ships. Don't see a picture you've taken? No problem just swipe your Seapass into one of the many computers there and pull up everything digitally. Here are some pictures from our stroll thru the Promenade.

Fun fact: The Oasis class was originally called the Genesis Project.

Kiosks are set up permanently throughout the Promenade for their many sidewalk sales.

The Pub offers the most comprehensive beer selection on the ship. Take a trip around the globe with beers of the world!

Wow!! Great review! Question since there aren't enough of gd pool chairs what if you just want to put your stuff down like your pool bag? Is there dry floor space you can place it so you can go in the water?

Hi - I am enjoying your review. I am going on the Oasis Eastern May 31 with my DH, 2 DS and DD. I am so excited. Did you go to any other specialty restaurants and did you enjoy them as much as Chops? I am considering booking the 3 specialty restaurants for the 5 of us. Even with 20% off its quite pricey but I might still do it.

Thanks

Hi At Sea 4ever,

enjoying your review, it seems that we were on the Oasis a long time ago when it was only March, and reading your review is bringing back a lot of good memories.

Thanks so much!

I am also following and enjoying your review. I just booked the Allure for Feb. 2016. I have so much to learn so I will be a sponge soaking everything in because unlike many of you we have never sailed an Oasis class ship.

We did Chops, 150 Central Park, Giovanni's, and Seafood shack. We enjoyed all of them! I'll be reviewing them as well. Thanks for following along!
