So excited. We are going to Alaska on Grand Princess 6/3/2015. Doing 13 days Connoisseur Escorted trip. Also, at end staying in Seattle for a few days. So looking forward to this bucket list trip.... This will be a trip of firsts, first time in Alaska, first time on Princess, first time in Seattle! :)

A few thoughts.

In Denali take longest trip you can get, at least Tundra Wilderness.

In Skagway take the longest White Pass train trip you can get, scenery is awesome.

In Glacier Bay be on deck every single minute you are there, with binoculars and camera at the ready. That is usually so full of wildlife as well as beautiful, sometimes calving, glaciers that you will regret moments of distraction.

Going to Alaska, if you love nature, is very close to heaven. Take it in!

And if in Juneau, definitely do the Salmon Bake dinner. They have several times you can go. So, if you have a tour or whatever during the day, then sign up for the Salmon Bake. Usually an old school bus picks you up near the ship, takes you out the Salmon Bake grounds, and has regular runs back to the ship. Sometimes you have others from other ships, but nothing is crowded.

When you get off the bus, they direct you to the booth with clam chowder, then there is a booth where you can buy wine, if you wish. You have a wonderful selection of food in a small buffet. They have fabulous sweet corn bread (Even we Texans love that corn bread). For dessert, you can roast marshmallows if you wish.

A delightful evening.

Yes, the glaciers are a definite all day, picture-taking event. We have been 4 times inbetween other trips because it is such a wonderful experience. We played golf one time in Whitehorse (from Skagway), then the train one time in Skagway, the Mendenhall Glacier, the lumberjack show in Ketchikan (bring smoked salmon back for your friends), the Totem Pole park, Fairbanks, Denali, Mt. McKinley (altho we've never seen it due to the fog), etc. etc. I could go on and on. Just enjoy. You will definitely go back.

Alaska was our very first cruise.

It sounds like you are on the ship the second part of your trip. If so, a balcony on the port side is a must. We spent a lot of time on our balcony watching everything. Also I hope you get a chance to ride the train between your starting point and the cruise terminal in Whittier. You have an opportunity to meet a lot of nice people and see much of the countryside.

Good luck and ENJOY!!!

6 days on land. NICE! Connoisseur makes it even better. I really wish I could book one like this for my wife but I'm afraid it is out of my price range. Enjoy your cruise and land tour. I am guessing it will be awesome! ;)

If you haven't already done so I suggest that you check out this thread by caribill about the Connoisseur land tour.
