Summit Bermuda "Celebrity Today" 5-18

On the Celebrity Website it lists the time of arrival in Bayonne, NJ from Bermuda as 7:00 AM. However, on the Celebrity newsletter that I saw dated 05/25 it listed the arrival at 8:00 AM. Could someone please tell me what time is correct as I need to let the person know that is picking me up. Thanks.

We just got off the summit on May 25th. We were docking at 7:00 am and they started to unload us at 7:30 am. My wife and I carried our bags off and were through customs and in my truck headed home at 8:00 am. They do a great job.

I did notice that not much luggage had been off loaded yet at that time so if you want them to take your luggage off they stage the time out. I think it was till 9:30 ? There is spots at the port you driver can park and wait till you call them. There is about a 1/4 mile road you are driving in to the port that you can pull over and wait.

We love the summit and will be back on it for a 4th time on oct.

I hope you do not mind answering another question....

I have read on here about changes to what is included in the drink packages (only on ships overseas though).

Did you happen to have the classic package?

If not, any insight to increases in drink prices and/or more exclusions as to what is included in the classic package?!

TIA!

I did see some price increases in drinks from last October till this May but I had upgraded to the premium drink package and enjoyed many different wines at dinner and never had to worry about which beer I grabbed at a bar.

I had originally upgraded to enjoy michaels club but found out before boarding that they had converted it to a private lounge. Did not miss it at all. The wine cellar on the 5th floor had a listing of some cart beers and ciders but had limited stock. Also the bar tender there was upset and kept telling people this was a wine bar. Guess he could not read his own menu. Only bar I had bad service in....

Thanks for posting these, I've been wanting to see what the schedules are for our upcoming cruise. Sadly it appears that Blu does not open until 6pm on nights that the ship is in port, which could make having a reasonably quick meal and heading back out for Harbor Nights a challenge.

I also see that Qsine was not open for lunch on Saturday as it had been in the past. Maybe already cancelled due to lack of reservations by the time this week's were printed.

I have to say, I'm disappointed in the offerings though. There's 2 movies, each shown once only (and while the ship is docked in Bermuda). And it seems like every second "event" is a sale on art, jewlery, spa, etc. The other "events" are mostly bands/duos playing with only a few other activites thrown in.

Our June 1st cruise is obviously set in stone but I think maybe I'll look around to see what works for our November cruise. If I can get something on another cruiseline I may be switching.

What else are you looking for? Are you going to tell us that the other cruise lines don't have similar sales? I don't really care about movies. I can watch those at home. If they were shown outside on a screen like Princess does, then it might be different.

I expected craft/art classes (like were posted in previous dailies), lectures twice a day (like were posted in previous dailies), more trivia (like were posted in previous dailies), game show type events held during the day and not right before late dining at 8pm where we'd have to hope that it's completed by 8:30pm and then try to get a wheelchair from deck 11 forward to deck 4 aft to make late dining at 8:30pm (like were posted in previous dailies), and yes, movies shown 2 or 3 times a day (like were posted in previous dailies).

I don't care if there are the sales as long as there are other events. Celebrity seems to have dropped 80% of the "other events" and just left the sales so that's mostly what's appearing in their dailies. It's disappointing. If I want to bring my own entertainment (like reading, games, crafts), I'd sail a cheaper line / time.

I took another Royal Caribbean cruise in February of this year knowing that they don't generally have many day time activities (we're not rock wall or ice skating people) because the price was low (it was downright cheap) and I knew that for the price I paid, I would need to bring along enough stuff to occupy my mind (and keep me out of the casino).

When choosing a Celebrity cruise, one of the big draws for me was the variety of daytime activities onboard. Looking at previous dailies, I thought, "wow, how am I ever going to choose which activities/events/shows/lectures to participate in - there's so much going on!" Looking at the most recent ones, I know feel like I'll need to pick over the activities and say, "well, I better grab lunch between 12-12:30 because the only event I want to participate in is at 1pm today".

Thanks for posting these, esp the Excursions. DH wants to scuba, but it's been more than 2 years since he went last, so I was hoping to see an intro scuba for him. He'll have to call them to see if he'd be allowed to do the 2-tank dive.

I have to say that coming from RCCL, I'm a bit disappointed at what's listed as daytime activities, too. I would have liked to see more craft stuff. I'll bring my own project, and DH is quite happy in the pool as much as possible, but there's really nothing that appeals to me for the sea days.

Although it says 6pm for blu, we found that it was open at 530 most nights. Check with the maitre'd once you're on board

Thanks, that is good to know. I thought it opened at 5:30 so I was surprised that it said 6 for the Bermuda nights.

Oh, dear. I am distressed to read this thread because I feel exactly as you do about the onboard activities. I had been hopeful about Celebrity based on reading older daily schedules that people have posted. We just got off the Grandeur of the Seas cruise to Bermuda, and thought we could "trade up" a bit by sailing on the Summit next year. This seems like a significant change from past procedures, and more of a "trade-off" than a "trade up." Grandeur's activity staff (Cruise Director, Activities Director, and three staffers) were everywhere, all the time, doing games, contests, trivia, bingo, crafts, dance lessons, karaoke, etc. With only 2 full port days, there is a LOT of time to fill on a 7-night sailing and they did it very well. I had expected the same, but perhaps minus some of the crasser stuff (sexiest man contest?) if we "moved up" to Celebrity.

Argh. Unfortunately...Grandeur is considerably more expensive! And the food is just eh.

Sorry, I can't seem to find it..

but..

the master is Captain Dimitrius... Great captain, and Very. very funny. be sure to go to every show that he attends (and, yes, he did attend our celebrity connections party)

the CD is Lisa Richard... She is very personable, always around, and a great singer and entertainer in her own right

the Activities Director is Luigi... no, he is not Italian... he is from the DR...

Steve

Lisa has already left Summit (and Celebrity) and Ken Mills is now CD.

As for the May 25th cruise and luggage, something must have happened because they let us off the ship (we were in the first group after self disembark) and our luggage was not there yet. We got off the shuttle bus and had to stand outside the terminal to wait for them to finish bringing it. Must have been about a 10 minute wait I think.
