Funbobby68 Posted May 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2014 On the odd chance they read any of these posts here a few suggestions , first I think that the drink packages are great but would love to see a statement at the end of the cruise to see if it actually pays for itself , secondly maybe offer a discount on the drink package if ordered 6 months out or more from sailing date , even at 10% off , the revenue stream would mean money in the bank and give people less time to think about it and then not buy it , third would be maybe put a excursion package together for all ports , visited on any itinerary ,at a discounted package price , would be way easier than trying to figure out what to do for each port separate ,and I have found the the RCL excursions are good .just my 2 cents worth Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Ken at the beach Posted May 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2014 The shore excursion package would interest me if they did something like they are now doing with dining package. Book 3 excursions get 20% in OBC.

The advance discount drink package may make sense, but not unless they offered the same for a dining package as well. The problem with an excursion package is if someone wanted to do just two of the excursions of a 3 port itinerary. Better to a la carte it as it is now IMO. We were given the usual bill at the end of our Celebrity Reflection cruise in November showing all our drinks (we had a premium drink package). The drink prices were $0 but made it easy to see the value (or lack of) of the Drink Package. I kept a list each day anyway as I was curious and we did not know the ship would do that. MichaelCMTX Posted May 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 27, 2014 offer a discount on the drink package if ordered 6 months out or more from sailing date , even at 10% off , If they did this I'd have it ordered for our January trip. Hint hint, RCCL. :D
Funbobby68 Posted May 28, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I too would order a discounted drink package , I just had it on our Alaska cruise and liked it , but we are sailing in 3 months again and I'm on the fence to get it again for that sailing , if there was a discount offered , I would get it again , as it stands I will most likely wait till the last minute , I really wished I kept the receipts , I not too concered about coming out of a drink package ahead or behind , but with that said if I only ended up at 250 bucks I would not do it again , but if for the sake of 100 bucks I would do it just for the guilt free ordering .As for the excursions , if not a package , just book 2 for x amount of discount ,book 3 for extra discount , just make it a sliding scale more you spend the more u save . Still just more of my thoughts Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
tlatrice Posted May 28, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) The online TA that I use actually offers excursion packages. I think Royal would do well to offer them. They don't have to stop offering them a la carte. They offer restaurant packages, but you can also opt to just go to one. Same concept. edjny Posted May 28, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 28, 2014 the cruiseline knows that they are making money on it. they know exactly how many drinks you had and what it costs them for those drinks. for every person who beats them out of a few, there are those who dont even come close. if they were losing money or breaking even, the cost would go up... I agree. You have to drink a LOT of booze to come out ahead of what you pay for the package. I would bet that most people are losers on that deal. bigeck Posted May 28, 2014 #14 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I would like to see them do a British Isles cruise. Ruby Princess is doing it and is virtually full every time. They are sending Royal Princess next year. MSC also has full ships doing that itinerary from Hamburg.

Goodtime Cruizin Posted May 28, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I find it odd that there are so many comments throughout the CC boards regarding the cost or value of the adult beverage drink packages. It appears that most think the drink packages cost too much and you can't break even, etc. While this may be true in some cases, the fact is, when one puchases any of the Specialty Dining pkgs, one can NEVER break even because you've already paid for a dinner every night as part of the cruise fare. The value is only found by the individual making the purchase. :)
prim8keeper Posted May 28, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Personally I would not be surprised if at some point Royal ran or tried a sale and discounted the beverage packages by 10%. We mostly sail Celebrity and prior to them going to the 123Go deal where a free classic drink package is an option, they would run 10% off the various drink package sales from time to time. They were very popular. Then again, maybe this is just wishful thinking for our Oasis cruise next year! :)
EGG Posted May 28, 2014 #19 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Just back from a transatlantic and I hated the new menu. I think it might actually be costing RCCL money, because after the first days, most of the couples at out table were ordering an extra meal just in case they didn't like their first choice. I have never been on a cruise where there was so little choice of chicken, but 2 Indian dishes on the menu every day.
Xina143 Posted May 28, 2014 #20 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I'd love to see some of these things added to the Crown and Anchor, or Carnival's VIFP program. If this is say you third or fourth cruise-why not offer a bit off the drink package? Say 10%? Or a discount or even free specialty restaurant? A discount on spa services? Diamond Plus members receive a 2 for 1 specialty restaurant that is good for the first night of a cruise. Some have had success using it on the second night also depends on the ship

Some have had success using it on the second night also depends on the ship I am not all that familiar with the Crown and Anchor, as up to this point we have only cruised Carnival. We are booked on a RCCL, and contemplating another one. BUT, my point was...IF they want to retain cruisers that see no point in being loyal, offer some of these things BEFORE you cruise 80+ days. Especially, since many of these things will encourage people TO spend money they wouldn't normally spend. I can do spa packages cheaper on land, but offer me say 25% off, and I just might splurge. See the point?
floridafish Posted May 28, 2014 #23 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I think they should have a relatively generous rating system in their casinos. Basic tier reached = free drinks while gambling. Second tier = some kind of on board credit, discount at spa Third Tier= discount on cruise or drink package thrown in These are just ideas. I use the players card and gamble quite a bit when on board. The benefits just don't seem to come my way. With a more generous frequent player program they would attract more customers and increase wagers IMHO.
