cocoabeachcruiser Posted May 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2014 My daughter is being taken on a cruise by her boyfriend and it turns out she is 5 points from Platinum. After checking her cruise history we find out she was awarded zero points for a Cruise critic group cruise years ago. When CCL was questioned, they claimed it was a zero revenue booking. We have proof that we paid for it. 4 of us actually. Our friends that went with us received credit. All 4 of us did not. Any suggestions?
elainmir Posted May 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2014 They did the same thing to us on a cruise from 2006...would not budge on it either...

welldone60 Posted May 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) You probably were assigned to the cabin that was comped with the group rate, even though you paid for it. Not sure how many cabins were sold on that group cruise, but they comp a cabin for every so many (not sure what the number is) sold in the group. Normally they are the lowest cabin cat. cocoabeachcruiser Posted May 30, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Submit your proof to Carnival and they should credit you with the VIFP points. We did, including original cruise invoice showing paid in full. They claim it was a free cabin. If I had a free cabin, I want my money back.:D I have emailed the company that handled it and we will see what they do as I have a 21 day med cruise booked thru them. I think its simple, I paid for it, I have proof, nothing else is my problem. Or I want everyone else who was on that group sailing stripped of their points.:D That would be fair would it not? Didn't think about the "free" cabins they give for group bookings. Looks like you drew the short straw. Sorry!!

Who ever the group cruise leader was is the one who should get no points as they are the ones who got the "real" free cabins.
Meyer2 Posted May 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Oh man, I agree, I think she should have the VIFP credits for that since you had paid for a cabin. Hoping it works out in your favor.
HawkIVette Posted May 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 30, 2014 If this is the case, Carnival gave the cabins away for free. Therefore, they shouldn't have to give the Points out for cabins that produced no revenue. I think the TA should have to give up the points, like a free cruise to the people to bring up their points to where it should be.

Therefore, they shouldn't have to give the Points out for cabins that produced no revenue. I kind of disagree here. I'm sure that the four persons in that "free" cabin spent some money, maybe quite a bit, in drinks, photos, casino, excursions, etc, so to say that the "free" cabin was not producing revenue is a crock!!! Think about the "free" cabins that Carnival was giving out. They weren't being nice, they knew that if they put people in those cabins, they would produce revenue!!! And really, the cost of the perks that Carnival doles out for their VIFP program is miniscule, so I believe that passengers that get the "free" cabins, spend money on board, should get the VIFP points. Off of my soapbox now.
okgirl Posted May 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Carnival isn't going to switch the points and shouldn't because technically it was a comped cabin. The person that cheated the OP was the CC Group Host. They should owe you your money back because you paid for it and then they assigned you the non-revenue cabin instead of taking it for themselves, since they are the one's that actually paid nothing for their cruise. I would contact the TA arm of CC that you booked with and seek compensation from them. If that's what CC group cruises are starting to do then I'll never book another one with them again...................Oh Wait!!!!! I quit booking Official CC Group Cruises a long time ago because the group amenities never came out making it worth it....I can book cheaper on my own....... I was in error, she is 6 points away and the cruise she is on first is a 3 night and she is cruising again in late August on another 3 nght, so this is going to affect her twice. I have contacted the TA and they have responded and needed additional info from me. I have it all!! :D Original invoice, booking numbers and even group booking numbers. We had a cat 8F balcony cabin and paid over $2000 for the cruise. I do wonder how they can fix it though. Since they do have the group numbers, they could have CCL strip the group leaders of their points and award all 4 of us ours since it was an error.;)

EZ4 Posted May 30, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Now I wonder if all of the people getting the free cruisers earlier this year are getting credit for those cruises. I bet not.

If she has her 75th day before the 2nd cruise (August) ends than she'd at least be Platinum on that cruise. Hopefully, Carnival will get it all straightened out and give you your earned points. There was another thread on this topic and the answer turned out to be a mixed bag of yes's and no's. We happened to be one of the yes's. Our free cruise was last year and i had zero expectations of points being awarded. It wasn't until we booked our most recent cruise that I happened to notice we had been awarded points for our free cruise.

Hit or a miss, but most of those who produced extra revenue by upgrading their stateroom type have received their VIFP points.
