Now we understand why they've put the Pacific back in Australia and put the Dawn back in Mexico: the Regal is staying with Princess!

I didn't see that anyone else has posted this yet, am I really the first to post this big news?

The Coral Princess is our favorite. I like the way the ship is configured, the adults only pool area and service personnel.

Thank you. We will have to try her some time, if her itinerary coincides with our own. We don't have an overall favorite ship, but have favorite crew members spread out through the fleet. We've learned to appreciate the advantages each ship has to offer.

Good news indeed. I was on the Inaugral cruise of the Regal and treated like a king. Back in those days us repeated got a brass propeller that said Regal Princess, Inaugural Cruise, 1991. I go free gifts nightly. I was on the inaugural of the Sapphire and got a cheap plaque. In those days we had pasta made by the table, ceasar salad made by the table, cherry jubilee made by the table. Now we get nothing made by the table. Have sailed her several times since and glad she is staying with the fleet. I suspect she will take up the exotic slack left by the Pacific Princess staying in Australia.

It sounds like she'll be taking over the Amazon cruises (the press release says these will be in January and March), but not the rest of the itineraries that have been dumped now that the Pacific is going to P&O Australia. The press release also says she'll be helping out the Coral with the Panama Canal sailings, but who knows if that's all they've got in store for her? Hopefully one of the TAs on the board can post with more info on her itineraries. They're supposed to open for booking on August 20, so I would imagine TAs will have more specific details pretty soon.

We really like the Regal, too. Sailed on the Regal in March/April 2004 to Hawaii and again in December 2004 for Panama Canal. And we had pasta as well as Cherries Jubilee and Bananas Foster made tableside. Maybe we just had a good head waiter.

News release today from Princess.

Regal Princess to Offer Unique Panama Canal and South America Itineraries in 2006/2007

Canal Program will Include 10- to 19-Day Voyages, Including San Juan to Acapulco Route

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (August 4, 2005) - Regal Princess' deployment has been announced for the fall 2006/winter 2007 season, and it features a new program of Panama Canal cruising with a range of unique itineraries from 10 to 19 days. Additionally, the 1,590-passenger ship will do four South America cruises in the winter - two down the Amazon River and two exploring the Andes and Peru.

"We're delighted to add Regal Princess to our Transcanal fleet," said Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales. "With the majority of the ship's deployment in the Panama Canal trade during this season, it cements Princess' leadership position in this destination. These new itineraries complement those of Coral Princess to provide our passengers with an even wider variety of cruise options there."

Regal Princess' 10-day Panama Canal Explorer cruises sail between San Juan and Acapulco and include calls at Aruba, Fuerte Amador, Panama; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Hualtulco, Mexico. Several other Panama Canal itineraries will also be offered such as a port-rich roundtrip sailing from Los Angeles. The two 12-day Amazon River cruises will depart January 19 and 31, sailing between San Juan and Manaus, Brazil. Two 12-day Andes/Peru voyages traveling between Lima, Peru and San Juan will sail March 4 and 16.

Suzy Q, I haven't read anything about refurbishing. There was some talk a while back about a fairly big overhaul (moving the spa to where the casino was, etc.) but I have no idea if that ever happened.

We sailed the Regal from San Francisco to New York City last Aug/Sept. It was our favorite cruise so far. Smaller ship makes for meeting more friendly folk and continuing to see them throughout the cruise.

Our stateroom was aft on the Aloha deck. Just steps from those wonderful hot tubs and deck. Talk about a place to kick back and relax.

So happy to hear she is staying with the Princess fleet :)

On at least two previous occasions, Regal Princess had been scheduled to leave the fleet, and both times the transfer was cancelled/deferred. Perhaps the 3rd time is a charm. We can hope!

We think Regal and the Sun class are very good sized, but of course, Coral & Island are nice sized ships also.

We're scheduled to take Regal 'round the Horn, 3-06-06.

Does anyone know if the Regal's new schedule is going to include a west coast to east coast sailing. Dates? I looked on Princess' website and couldn't find any 2007 dates yet. (We went from the east to the west in March on the Regal and and loved it - we want to go the other direction the next time.)
