southpawsdakota Posted June 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2014 We have just booked a transatlantic cruise for 4/15 with the ship arriving in Barcelona around noon on a Friday with an overnight stay. We have airline reservations leaving Barcelona at 6:40 a.m. on the Saturday morning. Will we be able to disembark at about 3 a.m. in order to get transportation to the airport or will be have to leave sometime on Friday. Thanks for your input. BTW we have been to Barcelona on business and are aware that the airport is about 30 mins. away from the town.
Loonbeam Posted June 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2014 It is unlikely there will be staff at the gangway at that time and the door will be open. At the very least you would need to confirm special arrangements with the line. There will also be no luggage assistance at that time, nor will there be any customs officers on duty (if applicable) or port terminal staff, and probably very few taxis if any. For that matter, the terminal itself may be closed. We have just booked a transatlantic cruise for 4/15 with the ship arriving in Barcelona around noon on a Friday with an overnight stay. pjs9876 Posted June 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2014 I can't advise you about getting off the ship but moving around town at 3AM is not a problem. I had a taxi pick up at 4:30 from a hotel and the street party was still in full force and going strong. Lots of folks about. Airport was a little hard to navigate as my carrier was not listed (it was a "sister" of the one listed and it took a little while to find someone that knew that). -Lew- Posted June 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2014 Consider disembarking Friday and staying at a hotel Friday evening. You'd need to get permission from Princess to do so. Lew

The gang plank has security 24/7 and unless otherwise noted and passenger and crew can get on and off at their leisure whether it 10PM or 4AM. However, whether disembarkation passengers can permanently get off the ship is another story. You should contact Princess Logistic and see this is possible. It all depends upon how and what you need to do to clear Spanish customs and immigration in Barcelona. If it done the day you arrive then all you need to do is endure your on board account is settled and just carry off all your luggage and get a taxi. Porters will not be available. Don't know if taxis will be available at the pier at 3AM without prior arrangements. If you can't leave at 3AM your only option is to disembark on Friday and get a hotel near the airport. Again, you should call Princess and inquire.
KirkNC Posted June 16, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2014 Do not expect any taxis, they do not start to pick up until 7:00.

southpawsdakota Posted June 17, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted June 17, 2014 FYI, I just called Princess re: getting off early in Barcelona. The young man said we could not but with a little persistence he did check. There is a special form "route deviation form" that he filled out. He then forwards it to someone at Princess who will get back to me. In order to get off on the last day of our cruise in Barcelona we could not have a flight prior to 10:30 a.m. so that certainly knocks out our 6:50 a.m. flight. We are using frequent flyer miles so we are trying to get a business class flight for the least amount of miles and layover time. I am trying to talk DH into changing our flight to the 10th, we shall see.:)
Rare Cruise Junky Posted June 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2014 I don't believe the 10:30 am time has any bearing when the ship does an overnight. We had to do something similar in Venice. It's not an issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Loonbeam Posted June 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2014 I'm not sure of that in all ports. Neighbors mother had an issue once where she almost had to call the ship because the patter said the port closed at 1 AM to all traffic and the gangway would be pulled away and door closed. Not sure which port that was tho No point in staffing the door if no one can exit or enter the dock. Gangway is manned 24/7.

We had the exact same scenario last year in Venice, and Princess had transportation to the airport at 3:30 am. Worth a shot! Susan

We are on the same cruise as you, and looking at a 8:45am flight out of Barcelona on that Saturday. Just wondering at what time they will allow you to disembark? Solara Posted June 18, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 18, 2014 We booked Princess Air on that same cruise. We got a 10:30 AM flight. Since it's Princess Air & we met their time requirement will be able to take their shuttle to the airport or will we have to do early disembarkation on our own & take cab to the pier? Since the ship is docked in Barcelona the day before what time do they let us leave the ship? Is it earlier than on other cruises?
