Withdrawing Cash

I'm having a brain freeze with my cruise one week away. I suddenly can't recall the best way to withdraw cash on a cruise. I do remember using my S & S card on Royal Caribbean to withdraw cash, but I don't remember if there is a charge. Also, it was a different cruise line so I don't know if Carnival works the same way.

I assume there are ATM's on the cruise ships. If so, do they charge a set fee? Is there another way to withdraw cash from the S & S card such as the casino, and do they charge for it?

So what I'm asking is what is the best way to withdraw cash on a cruise ship.

Any insight is appreciated.

There are ATM's on the cruise, however they come with a fee.

The best way to do it, is to add money to your S/S card in the casino (like you are going to play slot machines), then simply take it to the cage and "cash out".

Thank you for the reply. Just to make sure I understand, I can't simply present the S & S card to a teller at the casino and have them give me cash? For example, can I say "Here is my S & S card, please charge my account $200.00 and give me $200.00 cash". Do I have to actually add money to my S & S card by playing a game and then cashing it in? It seems silly that I would need to actually play instead of being able to directly withdraw cash against my S & S card.

Thanks again for any help.

Using S&S card in the casino you have to use at least one pull on the slots before going to the cashier to cash out. If you don't pull at least once it is locked out of cashing at the cashier. Then, Lucy, you have some 'splaining to do.

Thank you. I assume by what you're saying that the slots have a place where I would insert my S & S card into and it reads my card, then I pull the slot. Is that correct? If that is correct, once I pull the slot, can I cash out for any amount of money or is the amount limited to how much I play?

You actually need to play the machine a few times, not just once. If you only play once, take the money out, and then at a later time do the same thing, the casino computer will freeze you out.

Yes, there is a slot to insert the S&S card. When you want to get cash, go to the cashier and let them know you want to cash 'X' amount.

If you don't want to play the slots; but still want to take out money, then find a penny machine and play lowest amount.

Actually, no you don't. Several times I have put my card in, added say $100 to my casino account, and then just cash out without ever actually playing the machine. This was both on the Glory and the Liberty.

I used the kiosk on the freedom just days ago. I am assuming that you either have OBC or have set up your account with cash. If so you can withdraw from the kiosk as long as you have money available. I used the kiosk daily, either to deposit or withdraw funds.

You can also use the S&S kiosks to withdraw cash...no fees

Here's a question related to the S&S Kiosks:

If my S&S account is set up with a credit card (i.e. NOT cash, no OBC, NOT a debit card), can I withdraw cash from the kiosks?

They have become a little harder on people not doing at least 1 pull on a slot before cash out. They will lock your account out. If you go to the cage cashier and ask to take cash out they will do it for a 3% charge. Same as if you do on a table game. The slot machines do not charge the fee. The atm fee if I remember correctly is a flat charge of 6.50 plus any fees your bank charges. If I were you I would use the slot machine and take out $210 spin once at minimum bet some machines that could be as little as .30, then cash out. Hope that helps.

Apparently there is no kiosk on the Splendor but I have my S & S card linked to my credit card. I assumed I would be able to withdraw as much money from the S & S card as long as I don't go over my credit card limit. Is this not correct?

But remember that when you draw cash from a credit card, the company starts processing you for interest on that day (or at least the credit cards I have).

The question is: Does the S&S kiosk hit the credit card as a cash advance or a purchase? If you get money at the casino cage, I understand that is shows up as a purchase to your credit card company (I haven't actually done this, but that is what I have read). Therefore, if you pay it off by your next due date - no interest.

Of course, the follow up that we are trying to find out: Does the kiosk charge the same 3% fee as the casino cage.

I have submitted these questions to JH via his blog. Hopefully I'll have an answer within a few days (from him or "the Beards") and I'll post the info here.

That's the beauty of using the Casino method to withdraw cash. It is not charged to your credit card as a cash withdrawal like an ATM. It is added to the amount owing on your ship account. At the end of the cruise your ship account is settled using cash or the credit card you gave them when boarding. It is processed like a shop charge to your credit card and you only have to pay in full when the bill comes in to avoid interest.

Double bonus if you use a points based card, get it all charged to your ship account and when you get home deposit the cash you amassed. Free points!

I have the same question but getting a little lost trying to understand the Casino method for cashing out. I don't gamble & have never been in the casino so I'm not familiar with the machines/process.

How exactly do I use these penny machines (or the least expensive slots) to cash out? And how will I identify them, lol.

My S&S will be funded by a carnival gift card, does that make a difference in being able to get the cash?

Do the blue Kiosks charge for withdrawing?

thanks

If you do the above once or twice and not play in the casino, then you might not have a problem. But if you want to take money out multiple times and/or play in the casino, then you need to play a few pulls on a machine to 'fool' the casino computer so it sees you playing and not just taking money out.

The casino has changed how it does things within the past few years. They realized people were using the casino as an ATM and not making money. You now have to play a few times.

Basically, here is how the casino method works:

> Pick a slot machine

> Use your S&S card

> Use the keypad to enter your secret code (PIN)

> Choose the option to add money to the machine (as if you put dollar bills in it to play)

> The amount you choose is charged to your S&S account (shows up like a purchase)

> At this point some say you have to play a couple times, some say you don't

> On the slot machine, hit the "Cash Out" button

> The machine prints a receipt showing your balance (the receipt can be inserted to another slot machine if you were wanting to play a different one)

> Take the receipt to the Cashier Cage (or casino kiosk if they have one)

> Get your money (cold hard cash!)

Explaining how to identify and use the penny slots (with minimum bet) would be difficult to explain here - mainly because there are so many. It would be easier just to find a friendly cruiser nearby and ask for a little help. If I was there I'd be glad to help you. :D

If you are using this casino method, I doesn't matter what funds your S&S account.

I'm still waiting to hear from JH (or "the Beards") on whether the blue kiosks charge for withdrawing. I will post their answer here when I get it.

Happy cruising!

Granted, it's been a year since I have done this and no, I do not gamble. And for me, the only reason I have done it was to remove non-refundable OBC from my account and put it in my pocket. Even with a couple of cheap pulls, it's still cheaper than the ATM and you might actually win something which will not happen with the ATM.

When you "cash out", you are cashing out to your Player's Bank. You do not get a piece of paper to cash out.
