Below are the regulationsfor NCL and Carnival:

From NCL Web Site. We were also told (by the Hotel Director) the age was 21 while on board the Dawn this past April:

Minors

A passenger under 21 years of age must be accompanied in the same or connecting stateroom by a passenger 21 years or older who expressly agrees to be responsible for the under 21 passenger throughout the cruise. This includes, but is not limited to, preventing the purchase or consumption of alcohol and preventing the violation of any ship rules.

This is taken from the Carnival Web Site:

Guest acknowledges that the minimum age permitted for the purchase, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages aboard Carnival’s vessels is twenty-one (21). Guest agrees to supervise all persons under age twenty-one (21) under Guest’s charge to insure that they do not violate this, or any other, shipboard regulation. Guests who attempt to purchase alcohol by using false identification or the Sail & Sign card of a Guest who is twenty-one or older will be deemed in violation of this policy. Any Guest twenty-one or older who attempts to or purchases alcohol for any guest under twenty-one will also be deemed in violation of this policy. Guest agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark any guest who violates this policy and as well as any adults traveling with minors who violate this policy or any other shipboard regulation.

I was on the July 29 cruise and I have to agree that the teenagers were out of control. My 19 year old daughter was approcached many times by 12-13 year old asking her to buy them alcohol (she has more sense than to do that). She said if I post anything here to please tell parents not to give cash to your young teens. She saw many underaged kids paying up to $15.00 for a beer. No money can be used on the ship anyway, everything must be charged to your room so there is no need for cash. What I saw happen a lot is the parents would give their kids their room key so they can charge alcohol. The parent's are to blame; but it was obvious that these kids were young and they shouldn't have been served even if the parent gave permission. Part of the problem on this ship is that there is nothing for the 15-17 year olds to do. They are too old for the "Teen Club" and can't get into the adult clubs. There was a dance party on the pool dck one night and that was the one night all the teens had fun, they should do this more often. Teens were just wandering all over the ship seacrching for somewhere to go, it was pretty sad actually....they were all bored to tears. Besides this, I had a great time. It's what you make of it

Heeeey sounds like you are disssing NYers:mad:

And what makes you think it does not happen on other ships? On one ship I was on a lady had her son seated next to her at a slot machine, okay at least she knew where the kid was, I will give her that, but not much else.

Also when I was in Vegas I saw much the same thing, it is the parenting at fault, RCI can only do so much. Why? because the parests would then be doing the whining instead of you.

On vacation in Orlando a few years ago teens trashed pools and vending areas and hot tubs. It took several nights and some vigilant hotel guests before they got caught and sent home. We were a part of the vigilant guests. I am proactive, not just a passive whiner!:p

Great! I'm sure that's what most of us want to do on our vacation is to be proactive and play cops and robbers......... geez louise give me a break!

Kids drinking. What's new? This is an industry wide problem and there is nothing the cruise lines can do about it. Kids will get alcohol no matter what, whether it is from an irresponsible bar tender or some jack &%$ that will make a buck off of a stupid kid. It all comes down on the parents.

I know there are some irresponsible parents reading this. You know who you are. I want to tell you, you are allowing your stupid kids to ruin our cruises. We put in as much money as you do and we shouldn't have to put up with your underparenting and your kids moronic behavior.

I say RCCL should try and keep their older customer base by enforcing the rules. Send the party kids with bad mouths back to Carnival...

It is Carnival's policy (please see my post above) not to tolerate this behavior and prints in its contract:

"Guest agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark any guest who violates this policy and as well as any adults traveling with minors who violate this policy or any other shipboard regulation."

I agree with hermang. I was on that ship & there was 2 young girls in the next cabin. On most nights they were on there balcony drinking & making noise till 1 or 2 in the morning with a few young boys. On one of the last nights they were party till 4:30 drinking & smoking pot until I went on my balcony & they saw me.The next day the girl saw me & was so embrrassed that she ran back into her room. If there parents read these boards there room number was 6632

Which goes back to my original comment - behavior like that is learned from the parents. If Mom and Dad were out partying til the wee hours of the morning then it follows that Muffy and Biff think it is ok to do the same.

Well they sure dont enforce it very hard. My family has tried twice to cruise with them and both times had rowdy drunk kids, one throwing-up on in the elevator. The line did nothing about it, including making them disembark. Do you work for CCL or are you a TA for them? Rules dont help if they are not enforced.

I think they had their own cabin. That is another thing that irks me. People put there kids in a different cabin so they can get away from them. Then the kids don't have anyone watching what they are doing. So it becomes the cruise lines responsibility.

Put the following notice in the cruise contract:

If you are traveling with Teenage children, RCCL will reserve a $1000 charge on your sea pass which will be credited in full if there is no damage caused by your kids - or some such wording.

Further - if your under age children are observed under the influence of alcohol or drugs - you and they will removed at the next port No exceptions.

Watch the screaming on that one

Cruise Documentation Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation. Royal Caribbean International's age policy for gambling and consumption of alcoholic beverages is as follows: Guests eighteen (18) years of age and older are welcome to play in our casinos (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to play in our casinos). Guests eighteen to twenty (18-20) years of age are welcome to enjoy beer and wine (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to consume beer, wine and any other alcoholic beverages).

As you notice, no word stating with parental consent or with parents......

so all you need is one teen who is 18 & all his underage friends get his drinks.

No to both, however, I have sailed on the Triumph to Canada and Legend on a cruise to nowhere out of NYC.

It is a shame they do not enforce their policy. Fortunately we sailed when schools were in session - but did experience some adult drunks on the Legend (about 30 or so in a group with tee shirts emblazoned with "Lets Get Wiped Out")

To quote the Guest Vacation Policy listed at Royal Caribbean:

"Please note that any parent/guardian wishing to have an 18-20 year old in their care consume alcohol as described must complete a beverage waiver at the time of boarding."

Wow Billy Jack good for you I hope the parents do see this so They can be aware of there Children. I also Think RCCL is not ready for all of these problems so they need to get more Security. If you want to tell RCCL email them or call the 800 number so they can do something about it and Families can Enjoy there cruise. Cruisecomments@rccl.com I have sailed on 10 cruises prior to this sailing and I have never seen anything like what I saw on July 29th. I wish I never posted though because people arent so nice. But billy jack you did good.......

Lacey Tell your daughter Thank you for Posting to the boards to tell the parents what the children do. My daughter is 15 and told me everything that went on on the SHIP and that is why I came home so upset. We also personally saw many other things that know after reading your post makes sense the children were so young buying the liquor boy are they smart use the parents cards. What I witnessed is them buying the liquor, running in the hallways at all hours of the night,Picking up drinks that were left behind, sneaking in the vault, casino, etc. It was a mess in my opinion. I am telling everyone to get in contact with rccl and tell them what went on on that ship so they can tighten security and do something about the way the bartenders just give the drinks with a seapass card.

Once again Tell your daughter good job.

Call the 800 number and let them know

I usually don't respond to these types of gripes, but this one really irks me.

First off, why does underage drinking bother you? What do you care what other peoples kid's do?

I am pretty sure the casino is not off limits to children, they just can't gamble. Were they playing the slots or blackjack or something?

Rumors....enough said.....

If the fed's were there, there was a reason, Maybe your "rumour" was true, sorry to inconvenienace you for a couple of hours while criminal rapists were being apprehended.

And finally, if there is too much to write, why write at all?

Oh for hearvens sake. I am not siding with the OP as I get tired of hearing Whiners, but let me tell you something: kids are not allowed in the casinos. I have seen them along with the parents be asked to leave on both Celebrity and NCL. As for underage drinking, you must be kidding? I do not want to be on a ship with kids who are too young to drink, I beleive if the cruiseline has a policy because it is law or their law it should be enforced. This does not mean I am a tee totaler or niave. I have a college age granddaughter who is under age. I have been on vacations with her in the past couple of years and know she drinks. Is this ok, nope and I do not think the bar tenders should be serving these kids. Have you heard about some of the things that happen in Cancun during spring break, what about Aruba? I could go on and on. Young kids and alcohol do not mix. NMNita

Why NOT hold Royal Caribbean more accountable? What are the prudent measure we take on land, for instance... let's see

* Illegal to serve to minors

* Illegal to sell to minors

* Picture ID to drink if you look under 30

So how about for cruise ships

* Change Cruise ID to include picture and mark clearly for age group

* Bartenders and servers lose their job if they sell to minors

* Round up teenagers who are drunk (even from rooms if reported)

* Send families of drunk 18-20 year olds off the ship next port

* Send families of underage drinkers off the ship next port

* Heck send drunk adults off ship next port if they become obnoxious

Sending off all the obnoxious drunks at the next port would definitely improve the passenger/space ratio!

I am not happy with the way the ship was ran at all.

I have been on other Cruises and other RCCL Boats this place was a mess.

There were so many onboard issues that I dont know where to begin.

=========================================

I agree. The Voyager is not what we expected. We were on the 7/24 cruise and here is our report:

1. The toilet in our cabin on Deck 6 did not work 1/2 of the time and there was an odor on the hallway several cabins down all through the cruise

2. The toilets in several of the public restrooms did not work most of the time

3. The food was not as good as we had experienced on previous Explorer of the Seas cruises

4. The cruise went to Canada instead of Bermuda because the weather was supposed to be better in Canada and they were afraid of a storm hitting Bermuda. Postscript-The weather in Canada was cold, foggy, rainy and rough seas. The storm didn't hit Bermuda. The Norweign ship leaving at the same time from the same port did go to Bermuda without any issues!

5. The ships crew was rude (probably due to customers complaining)

6. RCCL has done nothing as all regarding the issue

7. The condition of the ship needs some repair (it is getting a little run down)

This is the 7th cruise I have been on. The other 6 were terrific...this one was not. RCCL better wake up and smell the coffee!
