graminca Posted July 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Planning a family cruise to the caribbean in Jan 2015. I believe booking 2 balcony rooms would be best for 5 of us. One senior, married couple and 2 older children. does anyone know which is better: NCL or Holland America.....
CruiserBruce Posted July 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic! "Better" is a totally subjective opinion. You will get many comments in favor of each. Personally, we would vote Holland America. Suggestion: next post, put a title relevant to your question. It will get replies faster.

OCruisers Posted July 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Seems you have been a member for quite a while ... just don't post often so this question must be of importance to you. HAL is lots more laid back than NCL but HAL is very nice and would be our choice. How old are the older children? If the older children are still rather young and want evening entertainment after 11 PM, they might be better off on NCL. ;) LuLu
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2014 I would carefully read about each cruise line and then read member reviews about the ships you are considering. Some will tell you to go with one over the other and others will say just the opposite. Best to read about each one and figure out which will work best. I wanted to also welcome you to Cruise Critic and also make one suggestion. When you post on the subject line rather than posting your cruise critic member name I would instead make this the subject of your post. dancinman66 Posted July 16, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Remember with cruise reviews you will get more people with a bad cruise to write reviews than ones who loved their cruise so can be biased results in a big way Read Between the lines But research is good Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Also compare the length of time you are in ports if that is important to you. HAL started to stay less time in ports a couple of years ago thus saving on fuel.

Cruisin' Chick Posted July 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 19, 2014 From what I keep reading and hearing, NCL charges for quite a few things that other cruises tend not to.
