Breeze E. Carib May 2014 Review with pictures

Recommended Posts

So there was a thread about the cabanas in Grand Turk and I posted a few pics. I had wanted to do a review of our cruise on the Breeze (and the Feb. cruise on Sunshine) but as new homeowner have been busy working on the house. But looking at the pictures decided I wanted to do one now.

This was the second time on the Breeze, we have never done one ship twice before. The last time we went to Aruba, DR, Curacao and Grand Turk, but I got bronchitis a couple of days in, so felt like I did not get the complete experience.

This trip we went to St. Maarten, St. Kitts, San Juan and Grand Turk. I booked a casino rate and I think it was about $80 cheaper a person than the regular rate. We had a spa inside. We always get the spa passes and it was included with the room. The balcony was more than what I wanted to pay and as we were spending money left and right on the house and had a trip to Alaska scheduled, I thought that the inside would be fine and it was.

We live in Tampa and flew to Miami, when we checked in they offered an upgrade to first class for $49 a person, and I jumped on it, plus rationalized that the checked bag I did not have to pay for was $35, so it was really only $14. A picture of my husband and all the space we had (compared to coach):

Check in was pretty uneventful and quick enough, soon enough we were on the ship. Our cruise ritual is to start with a cheeseburger and drink of the day. But it was before noon when we got on, so instead of heading to Guys and wanting to avoid the initial crush of the Lido deck, I suggested we go to the Red Frog Pub. Boy was I smart. We were the first ones there so we received our first drink for free. They take your picture and it was posted on the tv inside the pub:

You can't see us that well, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. We went outside and got on the swinging bench:

We then went to check out our room.

I had ordered my husband a 4 pack of Bud Light, plus I got the water and coke package and I usually order a little cruise cash to lower the price of our bill. But when we got to the room, the Casino had given me a card for a drinks on us card right away. I love free stuff (even if it is not really free).

We thought there was plenty of space.

The room was kind of warm, but we never said anything. I am sure if we had it would have been fixed, but we just did not spend that much time in the room. We were close to the spa and the elevators and the glass elevators that also led to the Serenity.

It was then time for one of many burgers from Guys, we both loved them.

After lunch, the muster drill, in the theater if I remember correctly and afterwards to avoid the crowd (?) back to Red Frog

Thank you.

I love your martini glass and you always make such nice comments to people to write reviews. It is appreciated.

On our cruise in April we also were the first to Red Frog. Had no idea we received free drinks as we were just touring the ship and decided to stop by. We were like loading zone #5-8 and found it hard to believe we were the first people to visit.

Spent time in the casino and had a "free" drink.

The Ocean Plaza, place for trivia, music and relaxing. There are hot tubs on the outside of this deck.

Didn't plan to go to taste bar, but I was there and there was not a line. The first night is from Cucina del Capitano. It was a meatball and bruschetta with ricotta cheese spread, both of these are actually available at Cucina, unlike some other nights when the taste from the various restaurants were inspired, but not actual menu items.

By the way, perfect snack and it was yummy.

I think a lot of people just instinctively go to Lido deck and being from Florida, I do love the pool but we don't need to get right in. I think with a large ship like the Breeze it is great that you have both Lido deck and deck 5 with so much to do, so everyone is not crowded into one spot.

The Piano Bar. It made our trip. Ben Gentry was the piano player, wonderful and Dan and Mia the bartenders were great. They had the piano bar at 7:45- 8:30 and then 9 to closing. I was at the piano bar every night. The first night I sat at the tables, but after that I sat at the piano bar- bar.

The Martini tasting. $17 for 4 different martinis. As you can see not full size, but not miniatures either. The martini tasting is only offered at certain bars during certain hours.

Dinner. My DH and I don't eat dinner together every night, but usually half, we each get to do what we want and we enjoy the dinners we share more. The first night, it was just me in the dining room. The sausage and peppers with linguini starter:

The Sweet and Sour Shrimp (when i remembered to take the picture). I had creme brulee for dessert and was going to take a picture, but ran the ipad down to zero.

Enjoying the review! Will be on the Breeze in November and can't wait.

I saw on your signature, you were going solo. One of the nights I had dinner without my husband, I sat with two other women who were both cruising solo and loved it.

If my husband did not want to go (doubt it since he loves cruising) I would definitely go alone.

Great start! Going back to look at your other reviews!

Thanks for taking the time to share a trip report.

Anticipating our 2nd Breeze cruise next month.

She's a Beauty! :D

Forgot how much doing reviews and looking at pictures helps me re-live vacation.
