beffiegirl Posted July 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Need some expert advice. My friend and her husband are booked on the Breeze Aug.10. She asked me for advice, but I don't know. They are having marriage problems. He is a gambler. He has a problem. He blew all their money. She's afraid of going with him because the casino. She doesn't want to go alone either. They have cruise insurance. Does this help them? Does it cover marriage issues? If it doesn't what can she do? She said she wish she could give the cruise away to some one else but I said I don't think she can. I hate to see a cruise go to waste!! TIA! Wow, it sure seems like the other issues trump the cost of the cruise (no pun intended). I don't think that cruise insurance (especially if done through the cruise line) will help. The only option would be if it was booked through an outside company that had "cancel for any reason" insurance in which case she would get 75% back (at least most plans). SadieN Posted July 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Depending on how they booked she could take someone else with her. It costs $50. If they booked ES she cannot do this.

Has she ever talked to her husband about joining "Gambler's Anonymous"? For some, gambling is an addiction, like drugs or alcohol. I don't know if this is even possible, but you might suggest she call Carnival and see if their Sign & Sail account can be set up so that he would not be able to use it in the casino. Sort of a way of being electronically banned.
champagne123 Posted July 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Did not any of you know there was a casino on all of the ships before booking?
cb at sea Posted July 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Unless they have "cancel for any reason" coverage, their insurance won't help. This sounds like something you shouldn't get involved in!

beffiegirl Posted July 25, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Well thanks for some advice. Trust me I don't want to get involved. Just wanted to tell her something since it's her first cruise, and they only booked since it was part of a wedding party. Yes he has a problem and he won't get help for it. He says it makes him happy.... Not my problem. She knows I cruise a lot and wanted my opinion. Thats it. I just didn't know the answer about insurance since I usually don't get.(yeah I know). Thanks! gtonda Posted July 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Have her take away any credit cards he may have, before the cruise, then set up their sign and sail account with cash, and only put a few dollars in there each day to cover whatever expenses they might have. This will leave him no way to procure funds to gamble with. A lot of babysitting, but at least they can cruise without the worry of incurring a gambling debt.
