Just back from Dawn - any ?

Wonderful trip, wonderful weather, great staff. Perfect vacation that I've been dreaming about for 3 months. A few instances of slow service in restaurants and I didn't hit a casino jackpot, but overall, a great vacation and great value. Any questions? I remembered to bring the dailies home this time.

Hi we are on the August 8th sailing and are thinking of booking the spa pass. Do you know what the price was for the weekly pass and was there a discount for couples? If you could post the dailies that would be great. We are trying to figure out dinner times and I am wondering about the show schedule. I know from reading these boards that the dailies change from week to week for many things but does the show schedule usually stay the same? This is our first cruise and we are really excited. Thanks for your offer to answer questions it really helps newbies like me.

Did they have lobster night on the first night in the restaurants? We hear it may be in the buffet now.

Sorry, I don't have the right "equipment" to post the dailies, but I'm happy to look through them to find the answers to your questions if I can.

 

I'm looking at Day 1 and I see the spa pass advertised as there only being 84 of them, but no price. I've heard $129 and maybe if you search this site for "spa pass price" someone will have listed it.

 

I don't know if the show times change from week to week, but this is what we had

 

Day 1 - Variety Show 7 and 9

Day 2 - Band on the Run 7 and 9

Day 3 - Comedian 7 and 9

Day 4 - Aerialists 7 and 9

Day 5 - Second City 7 and 9

Day 6 - Elements 7 and 9:30

Day 7 - Thrillusionist 7:30 and 9:30

 

We got there about 20 minutes ahead of time for all of the shows and found good seats. Tried the same thing for the Thrillusionist and it was PACKED. A 9:00 Second City precedes the illusionist and I think all the people there stayed on. Noodles Levenstein is the comedian - we enjoyed him. I loved the music in Band on the Run - lots of 70's. The Aerialists were AMAZING, but I wasn't really entertained per se.

 

Hope I got all the questions for now, but I'll check back. Had to take a nap from my strenuous vacation. Silly me staying up til after midnight last night and then getting up at 6 this morning.

Oops - missed a question for now. I didn't see lobster on the MDR menu any night. They had lobster pasta at the buffet the last night. I believe it was Monday night the main dining rooms had chateau briande (sp) as the chefs special and it was SO good. Just as good as the filet in Bistro. Check for it if you're a meat fan. You can get lobster as a special extra charge in Bistro and Cagney's by the way.

Too funny, we cruised May 16 and are cruising again on October 17!! When we went in May we had 5 kids with us.....When we go in May, there will be NO KIDS with us!!

I'd plan on two hours for dinner and that gives you a window to make a bathroom stop, or, as in my case, head up to the buffet for dessert and eat MANY fruit skewers and marshmallows dunked in chocolate, and still make it to the shows.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Tim Kaminsky will be our comedian...He was filming a movie in Canada in May and he is on a different ship now....

What did you do with your three days in Bermuda? We're still weighing our options as we've never been before. Definitely plan to see Horseshoe Bay even though I know about the crowds and we want to get a rum swizzle at the Swizzle Inn but otherwise, totally open to suggestions. Our sons, 21 & 18, may or may not be with us (they enjoy sleeping in a lot).

I've been to Bermuda many times over the years, so we opted for EASY. Spent two days at Snorkel Park and Monday took the ferry to Hamilton to shop. I'd suggest doing Horseshoe on Sunday before all the people from the Royal Caribbean ship join you over at dockyard. For your boys, they might be too excited to sleep when they see jet ski's, boat rentals, and a new activity with boots that push you high up from the water from a boat. Kind of looks like Ironman. Over on the Bermuda board someone might have the real name for it. Are you looking for low energy activities or lots of energy activities?

Well, like I said this is our first time so we're thinking the first day (which is Wednesday on Breakaway), we will ferry to St. George and walk to Tobacco Bay, then bus to Hamilton, explore and end at Swizzle Inn. The next day bus to Horseshoe Bay and the 3rd day we would explore Snorkel Park and maybe rent jetskis. I think the boys want high energy while dh & I enjoy snorkeling and low key activities.

There is a thread about lobsters being a thing in the past for NCL.

 

To my taste ship board lobster was never that good. Small tails or spiny lobsters, which to a Bostonian just is not lobster. RIP.:(

I was on the 7/11 sailing and Armen was the cruise director. He was very upbeat and enthusiastic and seemed very personable. We thought he did a great job.

Thanks, ALS1214! That's great to know about the cruise director of the Dawn. I've only been on a handful of cruises but have been lucky enough to have two of the best cruise directors in the business, one on NCL and one on RCCL. While it doesn't make or break the cruise for me, a good cruise director can make it a lot of fun!
