dstein Posted August 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2014 We're a family of 4. The kids are 15 and 10. We have booked both a Grand Suite and an interior cabin on Enchantment. We're required to book one adult in each stateroom since both the kids are <21 years old - so "officially" 1 adult+1 kid are booked into the suite, and 1+1 into the interior. I assume this is a pretty typical arrangement, but can someone who has done this in the past confirm that a) there won't be any drama from staff over the fact that one adult's SeaPass won't show any special marks re: suite holder. b) all of us will be able to take advantage of CL access and other suite perks? c) As one of the adults will be "officially" in the interior, will we be able to take the 2x C&A points assigned to the son registered in the GS and apply instead to the adult in the interior. (Shoud we? I saw a ref that husband and wife get joint benefit of whoever has most C&A points. If true, would it make sense to allow one of the sons to accumulate the 2x points instead?) d) Finally, as the interior is across the hallway from the GS, will the kids end up with the same stateroom attendant as us (who will be in the GS), or someone else? Clarea Posted August 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) Only the guests officially booked in the suite will have gold colored SeaPass cards. The Concierge will likely let everyone in your party in the CL, but only the gold cards will open the door. Regarding other gold card perks, you may or may not have issues with the non-gold cards being allowed in the suites pool area and the reserved theater seats. Whoever is officially a guest in the suite will get the 2X points. There's no re-assigning of points. Edited August 1, 2014 by clarea

The Concierge Lounge is for those guests booked in a GS or higher and Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club C&A Members. If you are all D+ then you all can go to the CL. If not then only those booked in the GS will have their SeaPass Cards Programmed. Those SeaPass Cards will be Gold. It all depends on the ship and Concierge as to whether non qualifying people in your party will be allowed access to the CL. Those booked in the GS will earn double points. Those booked in the interior cabin will not. Yes, you should all have the same stateroom attendant. Edited August 1, 2014 by cruisenfever
gerif Posted August 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Not sure who told you you had to book this way - as long as your own children are next door or directly across the hall, they do not need an adult in the cabin. But, yes, as noted, only those in the suite with a gold card may take advantage of the perks.
Rare LittleMissMagic Posted August 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2014 If your kids' stateroom is directly across the hall from your GS, then you should be able to book both in the same room, even though they are both under 21. However, it cannot be done online. Contact your travel agent, OTA, or Royal Caribbean to swap the rooms so adults are in the GS and kids in the inside. a) Crew members tend to avoid drama, and they usually want to make you happy. We once had three of us booked in a GS, but my sister was booked in a room with her friends. Concierge met her when she visited our room and actually invited her to attend a suite-guest event. They even sent an invitation to her room! Introduce your kids to the concierge team, and no promises, but they very well may extend invitations to them. b) Probably, but only the people with gold SeaPasses are guaranteed the concierge perks. And only the gold SeaPasses will open the door to the concierge lounge. c) Only the people assigned to the GS will get double points. And while yes, husband & wife get joint benefit if they are both on the cruise, I would still recommend switching the guests so that everyone is in the room they're sleeping in. Because if you love both of your sons equally, I don't think it's a good idea to give one of them double cruise points... unless you plan to give the other son double cruise points in the future. They get to keep the cruise points of all of the cruises they have been on after they turn 18, so you're already doing them a great favor by paying for all of the cruises that get them the points. d) Yes, you should have the same stateroom attendant. Gerif: your question prompted me to look further...and it turns out this is one of the FAQs on RCI's web site at http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&faqId=309&faqSubjectId=333 The relevant extract, with the key passage underlined by me: <quote> For voyages originating in North America: No Guest younger than the age twenty-one (21) will be assigned to a stateroom unless accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult twenty-one (21) years old or older. A guest's age is established upon the first date of sailing. This age limit will be waived for children sailing with their parents or guardians in connecting staterooms; for underage married couples; and for active duty members of the United States or Canadian military. </quote> We are not getting a connecting room but one across the hallway. I can't say I disagree with your point and we /should/ be able to book the 2 boys into their own room since it is "only" across the hallway from the GS - and I'll certainly try again with the TA to do this - but a strict interpretation of the wording supports the TA's comment that we can't book the boys into the interior cabin since neither is 21+ years old. RCI Cruisers 004 Posted August 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2014 We were just in an OS on Freedom, and friends traveling with us had a balcony room. We made no attempt to get them in the concierge lounge with us ,but they were allowed in while we waited to be escorted to the tender and they were also allowed to sit with us at the suite area at the pool ! Everything was done with the concierge's permission, or knowledge. Just ask ahead of time, you have a great Concierge on Enchantment !

As usual, the website is not in sync with what actually happens. We have 2 adults and 2 kids and the kids are either in a room across the hall or beside us and we never get connecting rooms. You were given the correct advice and must call RCI or have your TA call to make this arrangement. Many TA's will tell you no that it can't be done because it requires them to call and that takes them longer. Edit...it must be directly across the hall. Even a variance of one room diagonally and I have had that denied. Edited August 1, 2014 by Ourusualbeach

Your initial comment makes me hopeful I can get my TA to ignore the letter of the RCI FAQ and honor the intent by booking the boys in their own cabin. And your comment about drama avoidance is what I was kind of expecting. It seems like saying to a family "sorry, only <you> and <you> can come in here" would generate the kind of customer satisfaction nightmares best avoided. Loved your comment re: "IF you love both sons equally". Very diplomatic of you not to assume we do - although darn it we do love them equally :p I suppose we could be evil parents and use this an opportunity to torture them. ("OK - who wants those points more? Come on, dance little monkeys!" :p)
Miamia65 Posted August 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2014 You can definitely book your kids in a cabin across the hall from you. We did this on oasis and my kids were both under 21 - no problems at all. When we got on the ship we went to guest services and asked for extra seapass / keys for the kids room .. again no problem with that, the kids even had extras seapass cards to our cabin as well. they will let your kids in the CL, just explain to the concierge. We cruised on Oasis in december last year.

(Enchantment GS8540 and Interior 8539). I'm trying this TA for the first time. This will be an interesting test. So far she's been tremendously responsive to my questions so I suspect all I need to do is let her know that I've gotten a lot of responses on CC from folks who have done this before and all she needs to do is call RCI to make it happen. jbrezen Posted August 1, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2014 We have a GS booked on FOS, our 3 kids are across the hall. As others have stated, it can be done but requires a phone call, and it does have to be directly across from you.

dstein Posted August 1, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Thanks to everyone for your quick replies. Once again the CC community helps out! The TA came through with flying colors. I mentioned that several folks on CC had confirmed their experiences with putting <21 year olds into cabins across the hall. She said she'd call RCI and find out, and within 15 minutes I had updated booking confirmations putting the wife and I in the GS and the boys together in their stateroom. If someone in the CL complains that the boys don't have Gold Cards I'll thank them profusely for the implied offer to take the boys off our hands and show them around the ship. ;) Doug

homeschoolmama Posted August 2, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) As far as 2x points, never arrange things to move a kid for that reason. Kids automatically accumulate the same points the parents do until age 18. If you reach diamond level or above before they turn 18 the kids will automatically get the same level. At 18 they take the number of points you have on that day and from that point on they need to accumulate their own points under their own sailings. Therefore, if the two of you get 2x pts for gs the kids will get the same even if in an interior room. However, upon turning 18 the child will revert to his/her own point total. A child with parents who were diamond and had only taken 2 seven day cruises upon turning 18 will retain the Diamond status but only have 14 points. They will have to accumulate points on their own to make it to D+ from their current 14 points. Edited August 2, 2014 by Ourusualbeach
