Saving Pool Chairs

HMAN

Recommended Posts

My sister suggests going out in the morning and sticking a big wad of icky sticky chewing gum to the center of a choice chair. Noone will sit there. Then, you can come along with your ice cube, freeze the wad of gum loose and have the chair all to yourself:D.

So, now we all have to add Bubbleyum to our packing list, right?

OOH, a good one! Or maybe some plastic yucky stuff from a gag shop . . . Failing that, drape it gently over the offending towel or book . . .

Well, this is a good subject. It's not just cruise ships, but anywhere there is a pool!

I think it is rude, I don't do it. But, then again, who likes to get to the pool area and find no chairs available? (I've had that happen...)

My personal rule? If a chair containing a towel, book, hat, etc and no body...has no body in it within 15 minutes...it is fair game. In fairness, you have 15 minutes. After that, you will locate your belongings neatly piled on a chair or table. ;-)

Now, the theater? That's a rip sometimes. I have gone to sit in an almost empty row, and a person from the other end yells to me that they are SAVING THE ROW for their friends! Good grief! I want a friend like that....!! LOL!!!!

I think waiting somewhere between 15-30 min and then condfiscating the chair and removing the belongings is about right.

DID enjoy the idea someone posted in a previous thread. of also tearing the last 6 pages out of the book being used to save the seat and throwing them in the trash. Hogs should pay SOME penalty, no??

It would be my luck that the person would return as soon as I moved their belongings. I really do not like chair hogs, but I really hate deciding which chair belongs to a chair hog. The person could be in the restroom, taking care of child, or waiting in line for something to eat. I am pretty sure some people go to play bingo, take a cooking class or go the internet cafe and just leave their stuff and don't plan on returning for a few hours. This is so rude. If you are enjoying something else on the ship, let someone have a pool chair. I had a very hard time securing a deck chair during our spring break cruise. I was tempted to put my book and towel on a chair first thing in the morning.

Some people never learned good manners and there is nothing you or I can do to teach these people manners.

I don't turn their items in. I lay them on the deck or put them on an empty table or chair. I figure they left them there because they did not want them anymore.

Anyone care to comment about saving seats in the shows?????????????????

I do not support chair saving at the pool. However, that said, we never sit around the pool. Way too crowded and way, way, way too noisy. We always get a balcony cabin and spend our afternoons at sea there.

I have less of a problem with saving seats at the shows, provided that the people show up. Note that I am not talking about saving 50 seats. We are only talking about saving seats for 10 or 15 mintues here as opposed to 3 hours at the pool. It't not like someone could use the show seats before the show started.

What do you think of having attendants at the pool? They could pass out towels, escort you to a chair and make sure you placed your used towel in a bin when leaving.

Ah! The way cruising used to be. You even tipped them to find you a prime spot.

I like the idea of tearing the last pages from the book of the offending chair hog. The other "hog" that really gets my "goat" is the table hog. If you're looking for a table to have your lunch outside, invariably there will be several tables with one person sitting there reading a book....not eating or drinking...just taking up a table for six. We walk over, and say (while putting our tray or plate down) "may we join you?" Usually the loner takes the hint and disappears. Why don't some people realize that at meal times you really have to free up the tables for diners? oh b***h, b***h, b***h...I'll get off my soap box now. :D

Unfortunately cdkempton, those of us who are traveling by ourselves have not choice but to sit by ourselves. I like to sit outside and read, sew, etc. I try not to chose a large table, but frequently, I have to take what's vacant. And the tables are the main places to sit that is not in the sun, especially on the "covered" Lido.

However, I LOVE for people to join me. That's one reason I cruise. To meet people.

Unfortunately HAL has cut back so much on personnel that they no longer have as many attendents working the pool areas as they used to have. So there can't always be someone there to escort you to a lounge chair and hand you a towel - IF there were any unoccupied chairs. The attendent(s) that are there try to do the best job possible.

Tables - another issue - so many people just leave their dirty dishes and trays there. And again the crew curbacks - can't get everything cleaned as fast as some people would like.

OKAY - I am probably one of those people you see sitting at the table alone - DH sits for only awhile. I am able to take sun so long and can't sit in those new stupid plastic lounge chairs for any length of time because of arthritis in the lower spine. And there may be others who have similar issues.
