TPFKAH Posted August 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2014 Are the Carnival lobster tails really as small as shrimps now? I was a little taken back seeing Carnival post this picture.

aaron3219 Posted August 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2014 On Pride my lobster was tiny and terrible. Tasted like it was cooked in bulk, then put on plates and microwaved.

Bookbug53 Posted August 11, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) On Pride my lobster was tiny and terrible. Tasted like it was cooked in bulk, then put on plates and microwaved. You are only getting the tail of possibly a 1 pound lobster. Cooked in bulk? Most likely. Microwaved? Possibly Very seldom have we gotten great lobster tail on a ship. We stick with the home grown variety! :p That tail is small but that first picture is angled to make the shrimp appear much larger. ;) Second one is more representative. ShakyBeef Posted August 11, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2014 That looks like the size I've seen them on my last three Carnival cruises. They definitely shrunk a few years ago.

sjcruiser Posted August 11, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2014 After reading a thread on here a few years ago about being able to order two of whatever you wanted in the MDR, we now order two lobster tails. We do it when we first place our order with the waiter knowing one is not enough due to the size. If I just want the one, I often will order something else that will fill me up, like the steak to make it a surf-n-turf with baked potato and veggies. Cruise-Crazy Posted August 11, 2014 #15 Share Posted August 11, 2014 I have seen people eat six of them. Now that's excessive even for me.
gtalum Posted August 11, 2014 #16 Share Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) They're not as small as shrimp, but they are pretty small. The photo in question is forcing your perspective, with the shrimp in focus in the foreground and the lobster behind it. Cruise lobster is never great, as it's generally warm water Caribbean lobster instead of the much tastier Maine lobster. if you're concerned about the small size just order multiples. I usually do a lobster tail and a slice of rare prime rib on that night. Edited August 11, 2014 by gtalum
sarmat1 Posted August 11, 2014 #17 Share Posted August 11, 2014 That's why you start out with two! :D Are you really limited to ordering only two initially? I was going to start with three. woodey Posted August 11, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 11, 2014 At the end of the day the size does not matter:rolleyes: ...just order 2 more of them...... or 3 if you want more that's the nice thing about cruising ...you order and eat whatever you feel like you need to be rolled out of there....:D

billys5764 Posted August 11, 2014 #22 Share Posted August 11, 2014 My lobster on the Liberty this summer was the best I've had on a cruise ship. It was not tough and rubbery like in the past. Had I not ordered prime rib also, I might have gotten another tail.
NavyCruiser Posted August 11, 2014 #23 Share Posted August 11, 2014 Last Carnival cruise, we both order 2 lobsters each. Each one came with 3 shrimps & they were wonderful. We're late seating, so when our waiter asked us how were the lobsters, we said great. So he said they had more avail & asked we would like more, we said yes, he brought out 2 more plates for each of us! We tipped him well the next night... I didn't expect a 5 star huge lobster tail, but I did expect it to be much better quality(taste)
