JRA1708 Posted August 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Thinking of using Luggage Express on our upcoming cruise in October. I would like to hear some input though. Plus we fly only with Delta because we get one free checked bag with our Delta card. Will the cruise line know that? I def don't want to pay to check my bag when its free. We will be sailing from Port Canaveral flying out of Orlando. It sure would be nice not to have to bother with bags until we get to Pittsburgh. Thanks. Three have been some posts where some people had issues when they should have gotten a free bag (such as delta gold american express) and did not, but we have never experienced that. We will be sailing from Port Canaveral flying out of Orlando. It sure would be nice not to have to bother with bags until we get to Pittsburgh. Thanks. We had a lousy experience with Luggage Express on the Breeze in April. We filled out the form and indicated that we should have no baggage fees due to flying first class and took it down to GS with our airline reservation, which they made a copy of for their records. It clearly showed NO BAGGAGE FEES. Of course, there were $50.00 worth of baggage fees on my Sail and Sign so I went to GS. They promised to take them off, but they were still there the morning of debarkation. We received the envelope from GS which was supposed to contain luggage tags and boarding passes. DH and I both signed up for it and were flying on the same United reservation. I got my boarding pass, but DH did not. But, my luggage tags were for the wrong flight. So, down to Guest Services to get it fixed. I got an envelope with the correct luggage tags, but still no boarding pass or luggage tags for DH. So, back to Guest Services. The next morning they finally arrived, but not until they had added a second Luggage Express fee for DH. The boarding pass and luggage tags had been sent to someone else in another cabin as that was crossed off on the envelope and our cabin number handwritten on it. The morning of debarkation it was back to Guest Services. We should have only had 2 twenty dollar charges for Luggage Express, but we were charged 3 times for that and the $50.00 baggage fee was still on there. The accountant was not answering her phone, but the GS services manager said he would take care of it. We got off the ship and took a taxi to the airport wondering if we would ever see our luggage again. Thankfully, ours were the first down the chute in Houston. However, Carnival never took off the charges. I followed up with Miami, but never got a response. I just chalked it up to a $70.00 lesson. We will never use the service again. JRA1708 Posted August 26, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted August 26, 2014 jimbo5544, thanks for the response. Thats what I am worried about, getting charged for something that is free. I feel like its worth the $20 per bag to not have to lug it to the airport. I read an old post threw the search engine that there is a space or a check area by where your flight #'s is marked to state you are eligible for free checked baggage (if that makes sense) I think we will try it..fingers crossed. kona_wahine Posted August 26, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2014 our problem was a little different. We bought it for DH and myself. When everything was delivered to our cabin I noticed something off about mine. I went to GS to find out what the problem was. (thank GOODNESS for FTTF! I ended up there 3 times) Not sure what the problem was but they couldn't check me in. Ended up refunding me the money but DH still had it. Made it a pain because he had to be escorted off the ship (that's how they do it on the Liberty) but they did allow me to go with them. But I still had to get my bag and check in at the airport. (again, lucky we had FTTF so I had zone 1 tags) Wish we had just saved the money and checked us both in. I'd hesitate to use it again.

The form on the Glory in June had the box to check stating that you are exempt from the airline baggage fees. We've considered using that service but haven't due to the problems we've heard such as the ones mentioned here. Also if you get to your final airport and your luggage isn't there then you have to track it down. The airline might say they didn't receive it and Carnival says they give it to the airline, etc. I think it's great if it works right, but a big hassle when it doesn't. rlkubi Posted August 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2014 We have used luggage express about 5 times and had no problem at all! We love it. Wish every port had it.

bills blasters Posted August 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2014 We have used it at least 6 times, and so has a lot of our group. None of us have ever had a problem. We always fly Delta, and do not have to pay for checked bags. There is a space on the form that you put that you do not have to pay and explain. They will show you at guest services where it is. Just make sure you keep the form when they put it in your room. It gets mixed up with all the other papers they give you, and some of our group either didn't get it or threw it away not realizing what it was. You have to have it turned in on Thurs by noon, (if you debark on Sat.) You will need all your flight information. We will use it any time we can. dwaterhouse Posted August 27, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 27, 2014 We have used it on all but 2 of our cruises...... Love it! But we had issues on the breeze the 2nd time.... I made several trips to GS to get it right.... I finally got the correct paperwork and tags... But was overcharged on the luggage fees... It took 2 calls to 800 number after returning to get it straightened out. Going on the liberty in nov and plan on using it again

mom2mnem Posted August 27, 2014 #16 Share Posted August 27, 2014 We just used luggage express a few weeks ago on the Breeze. We had a 745pm flight out of Ft Lauderdale and rented a car for the day. I didn't want to rent a van to hold all of our stuff!! We fly Southwest so we get 2 checked bags free each person. We put the luggage express under me, dh and dd--checked in 5 bags total. We held back 2 bags for next day packing ( about the limit that I wanted to fit in our rental car anyway). Everything went smoothly. The only 'issue" we had ( which was really a non-issue for us ) was that our # was called for debarkation and when they scanned my daughters card to leave she buzzed. Turns out that the luggage hadn't yet been cleared by customs for luggage express people. Again, for us it was not a problem. I know for some ,who were trying to get out for a flight, it was a concern. Matt, the cruise director, saw us standing in the lobby and made some calls to try and see when we would be cleared --and it was pretty much with in 5 min of his calls that we got the ok to leave. Tho I am not sure how much difference it would have made as they did indicate to us when we first found out about the issue that they were in the process of getting our bags cleared at that time and it really wouldn't be long at all. We would use luggage express again. Lisa
beauty1492 Posted August 27, 2014 #17 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Used it lots and lots of times and only once did we get an error. When the Airlines started to charge for luggage and we were charged but should have been. Knowing that a third party runs the program we were afraid we would never see the $ again so, We went down GS and camped and camped until the charge cleared the S&S card. Would not hesitate to use again anytime.
nofishforme Posted August 27, 2014 #18 Share Posted August 27, 2014 I use it every time unless they dont have it at that port like new orleans i did have to go to guest services once to get the baggage fee taken off cuase i use an AA miles card so 1st bag is free but other then that it has been great
twinmom38 Posted August 27, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 27, 2014 JUST OFF MIRACLE LAST WEEK,.. NOT SURE IF IT IS DIFFERENT SHIP TO SHIP, BUT MY BAGGAGE FEE WAS BILLED DIRECTLY TO MY CREDIT CARD, IT WAS not ON MY SAIL ACCOUNT. THE $20.00 FEE FOR THE SERVICE WAS OF COURSE... IT WAS BILLED SEPERATELY.. OH, AND WORTH EVERY PENNY.
twinmom38 Posted August 27, 2014 #20 Share Posted August 27, 2014 SORRY.. I MIGHT HAVE BEEN WRONG.. HUBBY SAYS THE $50.00 CHARGE ON OUR CREDIT CARD FOR LUGGAGE WAS FOR THE TRIP OUT TO SEATTLE, AND THEY did CHARGE THE SIGN AND SAIL CARD FOR IT.. SORRY... BUT YES I THINK IT WAS WORTH THE $20.00 PER PEROSN

diamonddaddy Posted August 28, 2014 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2014 I personally have had great luck with it. Used it twice in the past few months on the Glory, and on the Conquest last month. Back in the early 90's when the airlines had trucks parked outside of customs in Miami it was nice. Luggage Express is even better
pbsteve Posted August 28, 2014 #24 Share Posted August 28, 2014 I understand those of you who have late flights and are sight seeing in town. but for me, I go right to the airport, and on the plane. I wouldn't waste 20.00 bucks to avoid having to wheel my bag off the ship, to the shuttle, and then 2 feet from the shuttle to the skycap. Plus, I'd rather pay southwest the 12.00 each for auto check-in so I get early seating.
JRA1708 Posted September 4, 2014 Author #25 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Thanks for all the replies. I am 99% sure we are going to try it. I do have one more question. We are flying with Delta, 1st checked bag is free, but one person in our party is going to have 2 checked bags. So that would have a $25 fee for just that one bag. Will that mess up the whole process? 5 free bags one has to be paid for. I don't want to throw a wrench in the whole process. Thanks!
